BREE BARNDANCE

This Saturday, August 26, sees the annual Barndance in Byrne’s of Bree Grainstore. Tickets for the Barndance are available from Bree post office, Byrnes Shop, Keeley’s Shop and from members of the Hall Committee. Entertainm­ent starts at 10 a.m. with local girl Colleen Coughlan followed by Wrecking Ball and then DJ till late. Enjoy a good night out.

ACTIVE RETIREMENT

The postponed outing of Bree Active Retirement will take place on this Wednesday, August 23. The bus will leave Bree Community Centre at 10 a.m. They will visit Kilfane Gardens, the Arboretum for lunch and come back through a scenic route. They expect to return to Bree at approximat­ely 6 p.m. Enquiries to 086 0747823.

THE FULL IRISH

The Full Irish show, in associatio­n with Celtic Roots, is running in Bree Hall for only two more Tuesday nights August 22 and August 29.

The night’s entertainm­ent begins at 8.30 p.m. with a scone and light refreshmen­ts followed by an hour and a half show of music, song, dance and storytelli­ng. Admission is €10 for adults with concession­s for children and groups. Bookings are advised for these final evenings, contact 087 7535354.

SYMPATHY

Sincere sympathy is extended to the wife, daughters, family and friends of Pat Darcy, Ballyhogue, who died recently.

HANDBALL

Congratula­tions to Colm Parnell on winning the Wexford under-17 60x30 Handball Singles title. He beat opposition from Coolgreane­y and St Joseph’s and then Ballymitty in the final.

YOUTH CLUB

Parents are still strongly encouraged to get Garda vetted before the Youth club resumes so that we may continue to provide a meeting place for the young people of the parish and surroundin­g areas. Garda vetting applicatio­n forms can be obtained by sending your email address to 087 2319219.

OUR LADY’S ISLAND

The Bree Parish Pilgrimage to our Lady’s Island will take place on Monday, August 28, Please assemble in the Island at 6.45 p.m. for procession around the Island. We will conclude with Mass at 8 p.m. This year our neighbouri­ng Parishes of Davidstown and Oylegate will join with us on Monday, August 28, Each day during the pilgrimage season there will be Mass at 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. The Sacrament of Confession will be available following Mass each evening.

COMMUNITY GAMES

Bree-Davidstown competitor­s were in great form at the National Community Games last weekend at National Sports Campus in Abbottstow­n, Dublin. Well done on a total five gold medals, seven silver medals and 11 fourth place medallions returning to the local area.

The boys under-16 Relay team of Daire Rochford, Leon Sinnott, Shane Kehoe, Eamonn Doyle and Jim Doyle won the gold medals. Harry Devereux won a silver medal in the boys under-10 100m as well as the under-15 Mixed Relay Team of Katie Whelan, Sophie Codd, Aoibhinn Crean, Shane Kehoe, Cillian Doyle and Seán Fitzpatric­k.

The fourth Place medallion winners were the under-12 Relay team of Abbie Doyle, Gracie Kehoe, Aleisha Furlong, Amelia Furlong, Ella Doyle and Sadhbh Crean. Galbally NS Sketch, ‘Taxing the Farmer’were also winners of the fourth place medallions. Members of that team were Tadhg Doyle, Hazel Murphy, Casey Cullen, Seán Vaughan and Garry Laffan. The sketch was produced by Siobhán Doyle and written by Peter Byrne.

The local area was also represente­d by individual athletes under-8 PJ Breen 80m, under-10 Keira Wilson 100m, Charlie Kehoe 60mHurdles, Maura Doyle 200m, under-12 Abbie Doyle 100m, Gracie Kehoe 600m, under-14 Yvonne Hennebry Long Jump and under-16 Daire Rochford 100m and under-10 Mixed Relay Keira Wilson, Maura Doyle, Ava Kehoe, Jayden Kenny and Harry Devereux; under-12 boys Relay of Oscar Redmond, Oisin Rochford, Cathal Kehoe, Ryan Whelan and Tadhg Doyle; under-14 Relay Team of Jessica Blyth, Jessica Wickham, Lucy Kehoe, Donna Delahunty, Anna Jevens and Yvonne Hennebry. All of these athletes reached the semifinals of their event.

Sam Devereux competed in the under-8 art. Athletics managers for the weekend were Una Doyle, Margaret Cloke Rochford, Jane Codd, Paudie Codd and Lar Rochford. Congratula­tions to all involved.

All athletes and their coaches will have a well earned rest over the next few weeks.
