Margaret Gabbett, aged 74, had a caring and loving nature
MARGARET Gabbett (nee McHugh) passed away peacefully at Wexford General Hospital on August 2, with her loving husband Joe by her side.
Margaret, from Glynn, was formerly of Liverpool and Leitrim.
She was the beloved wife of Joe for 50 years, mother of Irene, Joseph, Kevin, Colleen and Katie, and grandmother of six.
She is sadly missed by her family and friends who say she was a true lady who enriched their lives. Margaret was born to the late Mary and PJ (Sonny) McHugh, of Coolegraine, Dowra, Co. Leitrim.
She is survived by brothers Paddy and Noel and her sisters Anna and Rose. She was pre-deceased by her brothers Stephen and Tommy, and her sister Phyllis.
Margaret met her husband Joe in Liverpool in the ‘60s, where they were married and started a family. They returned to Ireland in 1983.
With her caring, loving nature, she was a maternal figure to many. Over the course of 20 years, she looked after numerous children for neighbours and friends, who became an extension of her own family.
She took great joy in listening to music, gardening, knitting, baking and writing. She was gifted with creativity and as a woman of strong faith she used her gifts to make the world a better place in simple ways.
She spent hours tending to her flowers and knitting garments for all her loved ones. Her sense of humour brightened the days of those around her.
Margaret died aged 74 after a short stay at hospital, almost two years following her diagnosis with Motor Neurone Disease (MND).
Despite the diagnosis, she was brave enough to enjoy those two years and had many special and happy times with family and friends.
Margaret had a lot of love to give to those around her and in turn, she will always hold a special place in many people’s hearts. May she rest in peace.
