Cork crush U-17 challenge

- JASON GOODISON

denied a spot kick and a chance to take the lead on the hour mark when O’Reilly was bundled over by Djomo but, as referee Jimmy O’Neill waved play on, the home side appeared to have a right to feel hard done by.

The post denied the Ferrycarrig side further in the 64th minute. Reece Murphy’s header from a James Esser free cannoned back off the woodwork and into the path of Berry, but the striker blasted the rebound over from close range.

The game changed almost instantly after the introduction of Cork City’s Cian Bargary.

Two minutes after he stepped onto the pitch his intelligent throwin set up striker Douwe Van Sinderen to turn and finish across Feeney into the bottom right corner for the opening goal in the 76th minute.

Barely a minute later he was on the scoresheet himself. He beat two Wexford defenders on the left wing before cutting in and finishing at Feeney’s near post.

Wexford pushed hard for a way back into the game but those two goals in little over a minute killed their momentum.

Cork caught the home side on the counter deep into injury time, with Doyle put the icing on an unexpected 3-0 win as he evaded multiple Wexford challenges and placed under Feeney.

Wexford remain eighth in the Southern Elite Division and will face fellow strugglers Kerry League next Sunday.
