LADIES’ FOOTBALL

A huge well done to our under-14 girls who played in their Shield Final against Castletown on Saturday, August 19, in Farmleigh.

Unfortunately the girls did not win on the day but they gave 100% and battled to the final whistle which was great to see. The effort and commitment that these girls gave during the year was fantastic.

On behalf of Niall, Mick and Lorraine we would just like to say that we could not be prouder of the girls and they were an absolute pleasure to train for the year. .

JUNIOR A LADIES COUNTY CHAMPS – Our Junior A team had a great win in the county final on Saturday, August 19, beating Bunclody on a scoreline of 4-11 to 3-11.

Bunclody started very quickly and were four points ahead before Taghmon got their first score but Bunclody ended the first half strongly and led by two points at half time. In the second half the lead changed hands several times but it was Taghmon, who finished the strongest and ended the game winning by a goal.

Great credit must go to both teams for a fantastic and sporting game of football.

Taghmon last won this cup in 2002 so it’s now back in Taghmon after 15 years so well done girls.

COMMUNITY GAMES

Last weekend at the National Festival in Abbottstown Dublin, saw the Community Games draw to a conclusion for 2017.

This year our area had a record four athletes compete at the finals. Ben O’Toole ran a great race in the 600m under-12. Murieann Hore had a top 10 finish in the discus under-16. Chloe O’Toole sprinted her way into the semi-final in the 100m under-14 and narrowly missed out on making the final.

Aisling Kelly ran a superb heat and semi-final in the 200m under-16. She stormed home in the final to win a well deserved bronze medal. Congratulations, Aisling. This is her fourth Individual National Community Games medal.

Thanks to the Taghmon area committee for all their work this year. Our AGM will be in October and we encourage as many parents as possible to attend as we intend to register the area for 2018.
