COMMUNITY GAMES

Glynn-Barntown’s successful run in Community Games ended at the national finals in Dublin last Saturday and Sunday. Four national finalists: Ciara Laffan under-10 Hurdles, Jane Duggan under-12 Ball Throw, Cian Carthy under-12 Long Puck and Ciara Butler under-14 Long Puck. Ciara Laffan got a bronze in under-10 Hurdles and Ciara Butler silver in Long Puck. Well done to all four competitor­s. GlynnBarnt­own CG Committee would like to thank all participan­ts in this year’s county finals and we look forward to next year.

SWIMMING CLUB NEW MEMBERS

Wexford Swimming Club is holding registrati­on for the start of the new season, this coming Friday, September 1, in Wexford’s Ferrybank swimming pool, between 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Coaches, committee members and swimmers, will be available to answer any questions. All new swimmers are asked to bring their swimming togs, for a free swim and informal swimming assessment to allow coaches to place newcomers into the appropriat­e swim squads for their ability. We accommodat­e all ages and abilities from those who want to swim for fitness and fun to those wanting to swim competitiv­ely, current membership range from five to 21 years, we offer Learn to Swim sessions, water polo, lane training and have members on the Irish and Leinster water polo teams, Irish surf lifesaving teams, Leinster swimming developmen­t squads and a growing number of swimmers swimming at Irish age group division 1 and two standard. We are a growing, sociable club and look forward to welcoming everyone on Friday.

GYMSTARS GYMNASTIC CLUB ENROLMENT EVENING

Enrolment evening in Gymstars Gymnastics Club, Knockeen, Barntown will take place on Tuesday, August 29, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Come along and enrol your child into one of the top gymnastic clubs in Ireland. We run a wide range of classes to suit the beginner to the advanced from age three years upwards. Classes resume on week beginning Monday, September 4. ROUNDERS

A massive congratula­tions to the Glynn-Barntown senior ladies Rounders team, who earned themselves the title of 2017 all-Ireland Champions. The ladies beat the Cuchulainn team from Carlow, in Abbotstown on Sunday last to a final score of 54 – 19. Well done to all involved.

CAMOGIE

Hard luck to our senior camogie team who were defeated by Rathnure in the championsh­ip quarter final on Tuesday in Farmleigh. Hard luck to our under-10 Blue camogie team defeated by a narrow margin by Oylegate-Glenbrien on Monday evening. So proud of you all.

ALL IRELAND UNDER-16 CAMOGIE FINAL

We’re all very proud of our under-16 camogie player Emma Dempsey, who represents club and county in the all-Ireland under-16 camogie final on Sunday v Galway in Kinnegad at 3.30 p.m. Wishing her and her Wexford teammates every good wish in their bid for National glory.

COISTE NA NÓG

Our under-12 boys had a thrilling hurling encounter away to the St Martin’s in their semifinal. After early exchanges we were 2-2 to 0-0 down but then put 2-1 on the board with goals from Patrick and Evan. In the middle third we got three points at the start while the opposition scored four points. Mark Walsh secured a goal in the final third to put us ahead before St Martin’s pulled away to take the win. Captain Michael Furlong led with an exceptiona­l performanc­e and his teammates can be very proud of what they have achieved. Well done to our minor footballer­s who have booked a championsh­ip semifinal place following their victory over Starlights on Tuesday evening in Killurin.

LADIES’ FOOTBALL

Our under-10 Green ladies’ football team played brilliantl­y on Mondayeven­ing, from start to finish, coming from behind to win 3-5 to 3-3 against St Fintan’s. You did yourselves proud, girls. Well done to the super Blue under-10 ladies’ football team who defeated Kilmore in a hard fought game coming out on top 5-9 to 4-2 in their final football match in the group on Tuesday evening. These champs have won every football match in their group this season matching their teammates on the Green team. Well done to everyone including all the mentors and manager PJ.

CHURCH NEWS

Daily Mass every Wednesday and Friday morning at 9.30 a.m. Adoration every Monday from 1 to 7.20 p.m with Mass at 7.30 p.m. Adoration then continues till nine o’clock. Confession­s every Saturday evening at 6 p.m and prayer meeting every Wednesday evening at 8 p.m. in the parochial house. Our Lady’s Island Pilgrimage continues till September 8 with daily Mass at 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. Friday next is the First Friday of the month and the sick and housebound of the parish will be visited at the usual times.

ATHLETICS

Now that the children are back in school, its time to get back to athletic training. Juvenile training will re-commence again on Monday night of next week, September 4 from seven to 8.15 p.m and again on Thursday evening from 7 p.m. to 8.15 p.m. Training twice weekly at the community field in Crossabeg. New members are most welcome.
