NOTES DEADLINE

The local notes deadline is now being brought forward. Items for inclusion in the paper should be with me by Thursday evening and no later than 10 a.m. on a Friday morning. The new arrangemen­t will be in place for the paper dated Tuesday, September 4, Please note that this deadline will apply at all times, even on bank holiday weekends.

BREE CHOIR

The choir in Bree Church resumes on Sunday, September 3, New people are encouraged to join for Sunday mornings and for Christmas and Easter. You will be very welcome.

CELTIC ROOTS FULL IRISH

The last night of the Full Irish show, in associatio­n with Celtic Roots, is in Bree Hall is this Tuesday night, August 29. The night’s entertainm­ent begins at 8.30 p.m. with a scone and light refreshmen­ts followed by an hour and a half show of music, song, dance and storytelli­ng. Admission is €10 for adults with concession­s for children and groups. Booking is advised for this final evening, contact 087 7535354.

BREE COMMUNITY CENTRE

Organisati­ons using or intending to use Bree Community Centre for the resumption of activities in September are asked to contact Eddie Dunne to confirm, book regular meetings, classes and events. This is to ensure that there are no overlaps or confusion around bookings.

BARN DANCE

The annual barn dance took place on Saturday night last in Byrne’s Grain Store. The proceeds this year went to the Community Centre for general upkeep and maintenanc­e. A great night was had by all. Many thanks to all who supported in any way.

RECYCLE UNITS

If the recycle units at the front of Bree Community Centre are full please do not leave bags, boxes of bottles on the ground in front of the units as they end up becoming a litter problem and also a hazard with broken glass. Please do not bring household refuse or any other type of rubbish up to the units as it will not be taken away. August 26, attended by Mayor Jim Moore. Páisti Beaga were overwhelme­d with the number of people who took the time out to visit their new premises. Without the support of community this massive undertakin­g of this huge project would have been so much harder. We would like to extend a massive thank you to the community centre committee who accommodat­ed the preschool as the relocation was ongoing. The committee have always showed their support towards the preschool, we would like to wish them the very best for the future as we begin our new journey at grange, broadway. AUTUMN FUNDRAISER

St Fintan’s autumn fundraiser, ‘the F factor, will take place mid November. The club is currently looking for contestant­s who are willing to strut their stuff and show their talents on the night. There will be a lead up of various fundraisin­g events which the different contestant­s will run off to raise funds for the clubs. Anyone interested in taking part or helping out in any way just get in touch with any of the club commitee or secretary Sharon Pettit. BEREAVEMEN­TS

Deepest sympathy is extended to the family and friends of Margaret Whelan Ballyregan, Killinick, Sadie Murphy Duncormick, Paddy Wickham Redpats Cross, Bloomfield and Pat Roche Killinick all of whomsadly died during the recent past. May they rest in peace.

FOOTBALL

A rather depleted St Fintan’s intermedia­te football team traveled to Taghmon to take on Adamstown in the Amber Springs-Ashdowne Park Hotels intermedia­te football championsh­ip group A game and received a drubbing from its opponents. Although beaten the team from.

Ballymore-Mayglass can still qualify for the latter stages of the championsh­ips with just one game remaining. St Mary’s Rosslare are group winners on 8points with St Fintan’s joining Adamstown, HWH/Bunclody and Ferns on four points.

A MESSAGE OF CONDOLENCE

The St Fintan’s GAA Club sends a message of condolence to the family and friends of Paddy Wickham, Redpats Cross, Bloomfield, who sadly died during the past week. In the passing of Paddy we not only lost one of the top performers in the associatio­n in Co. Wexford and beyond but a true friend and gentleman. Paddy served the associatio­n at county and Leinster level for close on Fifty years and had a distinctio­n of being the Wexford County board chairman on the last occasion that Wexford won the all-Ireland senior hurling championsh­ip in 1966. In his youth Paddy played with Ballyhogue winning a number of county titles. May he rest in peace.

ANNUAL GARDENING SHOW

Organised by the Killinick and District Garden Club, the seventh annual Gardening Show will take place inside the Agricultur­al Museum at Johnstown Castle Gardens on September 9 and 10. The show is open to anybody who wishes to enter the various prize competitio­ns for homegrown fruit, flowers, vegetables, herbs, preserves and flower arranging. Entries must be brought to the museum on Saturday the ninth (9.30 a.m. to 1.30 p.m.) and the show opens to the public on Sunday the 10th (9.30 a.m. to 4.30 p.m.). SCOUTS

Congratula­tions to Scout Team Aslan, who achieved a Silver Standard at the allIreland Scoutcraft competitio­n in Belfast last weekend. It was a tremendous achievemen­t for such a young team. Scouts will resume early Sept. We cater for boys and girls – Beavers 6-8, Cubs 9-11, Scouts 1215, Ventures 15-18. There are places in all sectors except Cubs (Waiting list). CRAFTY SEWCIALISI­NG

Do you own a sewing machine but don’t know how to use it? Then you need sewing classes for complete beginners. 5K FUN RUN AND WALK

TOMHAGGARD SOCIAL CENTRE AGM

The AGM was held on Wednesday, August 23. The committee extended Good health wishes to Fr Denis for continued speedy recovery. They also thanked Brian Furlong for his sterling work as TUS employee over the last year and welcome Kevin Scallan, who took up his position on August 14. Votes of thanks were expressed to Fintan Murphy and Eleanor Devereux, who have stepped down from the committee after nine years of service. New Officers elected chairperso­n Nick Hayes, Vice-Chair Mairead Devereux, secretary Breda Hayes, treasurers Angela Byrne and Mary Boggan, Committee Con Doyle Paddy McGuire, Peter Kehoe, Pauline Doyle, Carol Gray, Fr Jim Doyle. Fr Billy Caulfield. All activities will resume at the Social Centre week commencing September 4.

BALLYCOGLE­Y PLAYERS

Congratula­tions and best of luck to our group member Rachel Murphy, who was appointed chairperso­n of Wexford Drama Festival last week. Fintan Murphy celebrated his 70th birthday last Sunday in Tomhaggard Social Centre where his family and large circle of friends gathered to enjoy a fantastic afternoon of dancing to accordion man Adrian Ryan and not forgetting the gorgeous tea, coffee and delicious refreshmen­ts served by the lovely ladies. Preparatio­ns are ongoing for the one-act plays which will be staged in October. Director Breda Hayes is deciding on a suitable full length play for the drama circuit next year. Watch this space.

ST FINTAN’S LADIES

Well done to the under-10 ‘green’ team that finished their season with a cracker of a game in Ballymore against Taghmon. All 10 girls, Beck, Sinéad, Tara, Grace, Ava, Ruby, Ellen, Rosanna, Jolie and Jenna, all put in really hard work with great defensive work and great passing and moving of the ball. It was great to see how much every girl had improved since the first game, how more confident they where in themselves. Was great to watch. Well done, girls, and big thanks to all who came to support our little stars.

The under-10 ‘yellow’ team were at home against GlynnBarnt­own ‘green’ team a great game by both teams and there was some great defending from the backline of Kate, Eva, Aveen and Saoirse and Rebecca pulling off some great saves in goal the midfield of Ciara and Ava did great running and where up and down supporting the forward line where Holly May, Katie, Naomi and Jenna did great work with some great scores taken and brilliant team work throughout the pitch from all 11 girls involved. A big thanks as usual for great support on the line for the girls.

Get the flags out for a Big day for the under-12 girls when they play a county final against Bannow-Ballymitty on Sunday, September 3, at midday in Wexford Park. Come out and support the girls in what promises to be a great occasion.

ALL BLACKS AFC

The under-14 boys got their playing season back up and running on Saturday with a very competitiv­e friendly game against Wexford Celtic under15s.The game ended in a 2-2 draw. James Wright scored the first goal, with a neat finish after some good work by debutant Philip Tierney. They fell behind, but with just minutes to go Kyle Rankin scored an equaliser. Well done to Ben Rossiter, who was only back after a fantastic weekend in Sheffield, we’re he recorded a fine hat-trick in one of the games, and Tadgh McDonald who did himself proud at the latest Regional Block last week. The boys would also like to welcome Tucker O’Brien as head coach for the season, and we have no doubt he will help the boys push on and try regain the title. Finally we would like to wish all the boys starting secondary school for the first time this week, the best of luck. All Blacks AFC registrati­on nights as follows. Tuesday, August 29, 6 p.m. to 6.45 p.m. and Wednesday 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Please note these will be the final dates as on the September 1 games will be starting.
