1 WEXFORD RACES: Enjoy a fun, family day out at the races, as the next meeting will take place Saturday, September 2, at the Wexford Racecourse, from 2 p.m. The first race is the Audrey McGrath Memorial maiden hurdle and will begin at 2 p.m., followed by the second race of the Garry Flood Landscapin­g mares handicap hurdle at 2.35 p.m. The third race of the day is the Renault Koleos handicap hurdle, which starts at 3.10 p.m. The fourth race is the M2 Constructi­on mares maiden hurdle, which begins at 3.45 p.m., followed by the fifth race of the Sulzer novice steeplecha­se at 4.20 p.m. The Irish Stallion Farms EBF handicap steeplecha­se is the second last race, which will begin at 4.55 p.m., followed by the last race of the John Cullen Grain handicap steeplecha­se at 5.30 p.m. There is free parking spaces and race cards are on sale for €3. After, enjoy some food at The Ivy Bar and Restaurant catered by Phelim Byrne’s Seásúir, which serves top class food or visit The Snack Room, which is catered by Liam and Sheila Ennis, for some light refreshmen­ts. 2 The Kill God - Riff Raff Theatre, in associatio­n with Bodecii Film present The Kill God, written by Eoghan Rua Finn and directed by award-winning film maker Laura Way, at the National Opera House, from August 31 to September 3. In a post-religious society, violence reigns and heathens seek out the remaining believers for a bounty. Gideon is lost. Deep in the forest she stumbles upon a ‘home of charity’ and the enlightene­d overseer of the camp who lives only in the present. The arrival of a wounded traveller brings questions and answers the camp would rather leave in the past. Tickets €15. Television chef Edward Hayden will be cooking up a storm at the New Ross Credit Union on Friday, September 1 at 7.30 p.m. The evening will feature a great night of fabulous food, fun and music for all the family and is sure to have something to tickle the tastebuds. Guest speaker on the night will be Niall O’Muiri from Wexford Mental Health Associatio­n. The event is free of charge and all are welcome. 4 TINTERN TRAILS RUN: A run through one of the most historic and scenic areas of the south east takes place at Tintern Abbey on Sunday. Gusserane Coiste na n’Óg are inviting people to participat­e in their next Tintern Trails Run in the grounds of Tintern Abbey on Sunday, September 3, starting at 10 a.m. This event continues to grow in popularity due to the beauty of the area and how well it is run. You can enter online by finding the Tintern Run on Facebook. 5 PAT THE CHAP VINTAGE SHOW: Ballyedmon­d will be a hive of activity on Sunday, September 3, when the Pat the Chap vintage show takes place from 12 midday to 5 p.m. The day will include up to 15 modified tractors there for tractor pulling; a vintage display; a vintage working day with traditiona­l ploughing, threshing, and baling, weather permitting; bric a brac; refreshmen­ts; and more. European silver medal winning ploughman Dan Donnelly might even make an appearance. All proceeds go to local charities. For more, contact Gavin on 087 2672271. 6 Flint knapping course at the Irish National Heritage Park over two days - Saturday, September 2 and Sunday, September 3. Course participan­ts will be joined by lithic expert Witold Migal of the State Archaeolog­ical Museum in Warsaw, Poland for a hands-on workshop. The course will cover how to make stone knives, tools and arrowheads from flint using ancient methods. Talks on safety, tools and raw materials will also be covered. Cost: €100 per person (Hand tools and materials included). Call the National Heritage Park to book on 053 9120733. 7 Members of the public are invited to attend the launch of the 2017 Duncormick Harvest Festival this week. Details of the forthcomin­g harvest celebratio­n on Sunday, October 1 will be announced at an outdoor reception down by the river on Thursday, August 31 at 7 pm, featuring food, musical entertainm­ent and a demonstrat­ion of apple juicing. It’s the second annual harvest festival in Duncormick and visitors can look forward to displays of homegrown food and crafts along with street games, music, buskers, a vintage engine show and a working blacksmith demonstrat­ion. Celebratio­ns of the working farm horse and 100 years of Ford cars and tractors are also being organised.
