Suspended sentence for taking ex-partner’s car
A 42-year-old man who took his estranged partner’s car in Wexford was picked up by gardaí in Enniscorthy. Jason (or Jayson) Power of 87 St Aidan’s Crescent, Wexford appeared at the District Court sitting in Ardcavan to admit unauthorised taking of the vehicle at Whiterock Crescent on May 18, 2014.
Solicitor Tim Cummings said his client had been a chronic drug user in the past but was now on a methadone programme. Power attended the court sitting in Ardcavan on crutches and Mr Cummings said he had recently been involved in a road accident. The accused was now resident in Taghmon, to get away from temptations on offer in town, the solicitor said.
Judge Gerard Haughton suspended an eight-month prison sentence for the unauthorised taking, adding a five-year driving ban.
A four-month sentence for driving without insurance was also suspended.
