Meet‘n’playchessat Wexford town library
MEET ‘n’ Play Chess at Wexford Library has recommenced on Wednesday afternoons. The earlier 3.15-4 p.m. session is for younger children/beginners, while the 4-5 p.m. slot is for older children and those with a decent knowledge of the game.
These sessions are all about instilling in children a love of the game. The bit that usually gets parents hooked is that it also improves a child’s problem-solving ability.
Once children have conquered the basics and have fallen madly passionately in love with the mind-warping brilliance of this ancient Game of Kings they can try out all their new-found knowledge against their peers.
And their parents. There is nothing a kid likes better than casually asking dad for a game and mating him in 30 seconds. Wexford Library hopes, at some point during the year, to arrange a course of chess tuition by a high ranking player/teacher in order that those players interested in doing so may develop their game.
For now anyone interested in playing chess should turn up on Wednesday and give it a go.
