Assistant bank manager on false accounting charges
BANK official Lisa Redmond (39) from Graiguebeg, Bunclody appeared before the District Court in Gorey on false accounting charges.
Formal evidence of arrest, charge and caution was provided by Detective Garda Ian Hayes to Judge Gerard Haughton.
The detective explained that Ms Redmond was assistant manager of Permanent TSB in Gorey when the alleged offences occurred in July of 2015.
The charges arose after what he described as irregularities came to light during an audit carried out at the bank.
Ms Redmond was accused of dishonestly debiting €85,000 from the cash reserve account of the bank.
Alternatively, she was charged with falsifying a document in order to inflate the figure for the ATM cash reserve held at the branch by €80,000 and inflating the previous day’s balance by €5,000.
Judge Haughton remarked that the amount of money involved appeared to be substantial. The garda said it was alleged that the defendant was responsible for a loss of €74,600 sustained by PTSB.
The identity of any person who might have benefitted was unknown, suggested Garda Hayes.
The case stands adjourned.
