Save woodenworks campaign launched

A campaign has begun to incorporate the historic woodenworks into the new multi-million pound main drainage scheme on Wexford Quays, rather than allowing them to be lost forever.

The move follws the public meeting in the Arts Centre two weeks agao, when the case for and against retention of the 80-year-old strucutre was put.

Now the organisers of that meeting are asking the people of Wexford for their support.

People will be asked to sign a petition which calls for the woodenworks to be re-built and properly maintained as a central part of the main drainage and quay development.

The next stage of the campaign will be to begin research to discover what features people would like to see included in or omitted from the quays development.

The information would then be used to prepare an alternative plan and to open talks with the developer, Wexford Corporation.

A further meeting of the group will be held in The County Hotel next Monday night at 8.30 p.m.
