Bingo! Couple’s wedding with a difference helps Make A Wish

- BY SARA GAHAN

IT WAS not the usual wedding reception for newly weds Thomas Scallan and Elaine Holloway as they held a bingo game instead of the speeches to raise money for the Make-A-Wish foundation.

Thomas and Elaine from Trinity Taghmon got married in Carrig-on-Bannow Church, followed by a reception in Clayton Whites Hotel, where they both decided to play bingo after the meal.

The 120 guests were each given a bingo card and had to get a line across or a full card to win. Meanwhile a bucket was passed around for people to donate any amount they wished.

The game was in aid of the Make-A-Wish foundation and prizes were sponsored by Sinnott’s Bar, Jenny’s Cupcakes, Clayton Whites Hotel, the Talbot Hotel, PJ Walker, Grants Chemist, the Farmer’s Kitchen and Joe Whelan’s Barbers.

Thomas’s mother Ann Scallan said: ‘They did not want to do speeches, so they came up with this idea. They have two children themselves, Sophie and Shane, so that is why they picked the Make-A-Wish Foundation for sick children.’

The couple met four years ago in Clayton Whites Hotel. Elaine, who still works there, is a fitness instructor in the leisure centre and Thomas used to be a chef in Whites, but currently works in the Talbot Hotel.

‘We had a lovely day with family and friends and Thomas and Elaine also had a great honeymoon in Salou,’ said Ann.
