STUDENT IS AWARDED €20,000 SCHOLARSHI­P

A STUDENT from Broadway has been awarded a €20,000 scholarshi­p by the Naughton Foundation to help him fund his Third Level education.

Joseph Wickham, from St Peter’s College, has accepted a place at University of Limerick studying Aeronautic­al Engineerin­g.

Supporting academic and innovative excellence in Irish students, this Scholarshi­p Award is an investment in the future of Ireland’s reputation as a country with outstandin­g graduates.

The scheme started in three counties in 2008 and has continued to expand annually to become the nationwide program it is today. The awards ceremony, at which presentati­ons were made to 36 students, took place in the Trinity Biomedical Sciences Institute, Trinity College Dublin.

Speaking about the growth of the foundation over the past 10 years, the Naughtons said:

‘Ten years ago we envisaged a small scholarshi­p program to help support local students studying the STEM subjects.

‘We never imagined this group of over 200 students and alumni nationwide who Picture Kieran Harnett. are connected across the universiti­es and STEM discipline­s and we couldn’t be more proud of the unique community they are developing” Joseph’s former secondary school, St Peter’s College, Wexford, was presented with a prize of €1,000 towards their school’s science facilities, for their support of these students. His former principal Robert O’Callaghan was among those at the awards ceremony.
