Community pools together in memory of John

- By SARAH GAHAN

THE heavy rain and blustery winds did not put a stop to the hundreds of people who went to the John Wadding-Byrne Memorial Charity Pool Tournament held in Jack Bailey’s Pub.

The event raised a total of €1,500 and will be donated to the Wexford Marine Watch and Console.

John from Belvedere Grove sadly passed away June of this year and to keep his memory alive, family and friends organised a pool tournament, which will be held annually.

Organiser David Kelly said more than 32 players took part in the tournament which did not end until 11.30 p.m.

‘We started at 5 p.m. and it went on for most of the night, we played doubles and the overall winners were Jack Emmett, who is one of the organisers, and Pat Jordan,’ said David.

The community pulled together for the event and many local businesses, and people, sponsored some great prizes for the monster raffle.

David said: ‘For first we had two VIP tickets for Liverpool versus Everton, second prize we had two nights B&B in any Talbot Group hotel for two people, third we had a €100 cash prize from M2 Construction and fourth was a €100 Umeg tattoo voucher.’

Other spot prizes were kindly donated by Cut Throat Barbers, Muscle Maintenance, Sherwoods, Sam McCauleys, Carraig Donn, Candy, Hair Craft, Lloyds Salon, Evolution, Hassets, DV8, Diva, Trendz, Rebel & Rock, Ramen, Talbot Beauty Bank, Heineken, Laura’s Beauty Rooms, Inspire Beauty, Sean Kinsella car valet, Aoife Harnett Physio, Elle Boutique, Natural Health, Londis The Faythe, and AK Brows and Body.

David said they could not believe the amount of support they received as there was over €2,500 worth of raffle prizes.

The night ended with music from Colm Wilson and Calum O’Neill who provided great entertainment and created an amazing atmosphere among the crowd.
