Major leisure plan for old Carcur dump
October 1994
Plans for the development of the old dump site at Carcur on the outskirts of Wexford are currently being studied by members of Wexford Corporation.
Plans for an ambitious project that would include a par 3 golf course, bar and restaurant, boating lake and an all-weather playing pitch have been submitted to the Corporation by a company called Parks & Leisure Ltd.
Other itmes included in the plans for the area include three outdoor and floodlit tennis courts, an adventure playground and assault course, bowling green, crazy golf, barbecue/picnic area, pets corner, a clay pigeon shoot, a BMX and skateboard track, and an archery area.
A caravan park, sports hall, leisure complex and a driving range are all envisioned for phase two of the development.
The developers said that they are confident that the development will be an affordable sporting and leisure amenity for all of the people of the town, with special discounts being offered to the umemployed and senior citizens once the development is concluded.
If the proposals are to go ahead, it is likely that the Corporation will give over the site to the developers on a long-term lease with a nominal rent.
There would be no upfront payment for the site, but the company would undertake the terms of the lease to pay £225,000 over 5 to 15 years from the date of completion.
The members of Wexford Corporation were given copies of the proposal on Monday night and are to discuss them further at their meeting next month.
