Fiona Shaw to attend Picture House launch

THE acclaimed stage and screen actress Fiona Shaw who is directing Medea at Wexford Opera Festival this year, is due to attend the launch of Wexford Film Society’s new Picture House season on Tuesday, October 17 at 6 pm in Wexford Arts Centre.

The programme for 2017/2018 will be revealed at the launch ahead of the opening film on November 7 and people will have a chance to sign up for membership.

Fiona Shaw who starred in ‘My Left Foot’, ‘The Butcher boy’ and the ‘Harry Potter’ films will present the club’s Fellowship Award which is an annual recognitio­n given to a Wexford person who has distinguis­hed themselves in the world of film.

Previous recipients have been the screenwrit­er Billy Roche; actor Gary Lydon; director Declan Lowney; film critic Philip Molloy and production designers John Paul Kelly and Anna Rackard.

Ms. Shaw is in town to direct the mainstage opera ‘Medea’ for Wexford Festival Opera. She has appeared in two films screened during previous seasons of the Picture House - ‘The Last September’ and the ‘Tree of Life’. She has also starred in Brian de Palma’s ‘The Black Dahlia’, ‘Fracture’ alongside Anthony Hopkins and Ryan Gosling and the hit HBO series ‘True Blood’.
