SCHOOL OF MUSIC

Shelmalier Crossabeg School of music is back on Tuesdays from 3.15 p.m. to 6 p.m. New students welcome. Class Instrument­s include Guitar beginners and intermedia­te. Tin whistle beginners and intermedia­te. Bodhran, Banjo, Mandolin, Keyboard, Fiddle Singing and Button accordian.

Classes cost €7 for one instrument, €10 for two instrument­s/ class which includes band practice for 20 minutes every week.

YOUTH CLUB

Ballymurn Youth Club meets every Friday night in the hall from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.

BINGO

Bingo is played every Monday night in the Anvil, Ballymurn at 9 p.m.

GAA NEWS

Best of luck to our Intermedia­te hurling team who are playing Monageer in the Co. semi-final on Saturday, October 14. Your support would be greatly appreciate­d. championsh­ips held at the JFK park on Sunday week last, Emma McCarthy from St Killian’s AC came home in third place in the under-10 event in the non-championsh­ip runs. Having already competed in the Taghmon open cross-country, she is now growing in confidence and experience. Well done, Emma.

On Sunday, October 15, the juvenile uneven and senior championsh­ips will be hosted by SBR in Ferns. Juvenile events commence at midday, with the non-championsh­ip race beginning at 11.50 a.m.

GET WELL WISHES

We send our good wishes to Mother and Son, Mary and Anthony Quinn, both of whom are recuperati­ng at their respective homes in Ballyharro­n and Newcastle Upper, following operations on Friday, September 22, Mary was a patient at the Mater Misericord­iae University hospital in Dublin, while Anthony was a patient in the Hermitage Clinic in Dublin. Both are now back home and making good progress.

They would like to thank most sincerely their families, friends and neighbours for their support, kind thoughts and good wishes, to the church Prayer Group and Rosary Group, who offered up special prayers, lit candles and recited Rosaries, and to all who send cards, text messages and called to see them. It is much appreciate­d. Go raibh Mhile Maith agaibh go Leir.

To those who are in hospital or patients at home we send our good thoughts and best wishes.

FOOTBALL CHAMPIONS

Congratula­tions to Crossabeg-Ballymurn GAA Club, who were crowned the Intermedia­te A Football champions for 2017 in an exciting final at St Patrick’s Park, Enniscorth­y, where they saw off the challenge of a very determined Naomh Eanna side. Extra time was needed before the locals were collecting their fourth title since 2011. The final score was 1-11 to 1-9.

The victorious side had Ben Turner, Conor Barlow, Oisin Foley, Martin Redmond, Séamus Carroll, Ronan Devereux, Conor Devereux, Paddy Devereux, Pádraig Foley, Cian Lambert, Sam Kelly, Conor Shovlin (captain) Cormac O’Rourke, Robert Byrne, Oran Maddock, and also Andy Butler, Bill Eviston, Cathal Devereux, Conor Gormley, Mark O’Connor, Eoin O’Connor, Evan Kinlough, David Kehoe, Conor Maddock, Michael Eviston, Matty Sludds, Shane Whelan. Sunday. The choir will operate under the direction of Ann Cleary (née Stamp) and it’s volunteer leaders. Thanks to all on the new committee and to Fr John Carroll for his enthusiast­ic support.

MUSIC AT THE MANOR

Save the date in your diary: Mayor Tom Dempsey presents music at the Manor in aid of Wexford Hospice Homecare and Barntown Parish in the Slaney Manor Barntown, on November 17 from 8 p.m. till late. Tickets €20.

TENNIS

Following the success of our summer tennis for kids we are offering children’s tennis membership from now till end January for €20. There will be 13 weeks of fun tennis with Lara, once a week free of charge as an added bonus. These will take place every Monday starting the 25th from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. We hope to run a camp at mid term and are looking into offering profession­al tennis coaching pending interest. Our Minor camogie girls opened their championsh­ip on Sunday morning with a win over Oulart-The Ballagh – well done girls.

CONDOLENCE­S

COISTE NA NÓG

Well done to our under-nine and under-10 boys who took part in a blitz with Rathgarogu­e-Cushinstow­n and the Rower-Inistioge on Sunday.

A huge congratula­tions to our under-14 hurling stars who won the Division 2 county final on Saturday defeating St Mogue’s Fethard by two points. Captain Darragh and his teammates were delighted to accept the cup. Our Minor hurlers had a great shield semi-final win over Faythe Harriers in Páirc Carman winning by a narrow one point margin. Well done to all.

CLUB GEAR ORDER NIGHT

Thanks to all who ordered gear recently. The order has been submitted and customers will be notified by text when it arrives. This is the final order for 2017. A sale night will also be held before the end of the year. Details to follow.

GAA CLUB LOTTO

Club lotto draw took place on Wednesday, October 04 – Numbers drawn were 1, 2, 3 and 13.

There was no jackpot winner and no match-three winner. The next draw will be held in Declan’s on Wednesday, October 18. Jackpot is now €6,400.

LADIES FOOTBALL

Great craic was had on Saturday night as the battle of the brains took place in the club house. There was a great turnout with 16 teams taking part. The brain box team of the night were Aidan Cullen, Ailíse Colfer, PJ Gaynor and Stuart Duggan, who kindly donated their winning
