TIME TO GET DANCING IN THE AISLES AT OLTG’S FOOTLOOSE

-

WITH the best wishes of movie star Kevin Bacon behind them, Oyster Lane Theatre Group’s 26th production ‘Footloose’ kicked off in style at the Dun Mhuire last night (October 23).

The musical, which is based off the 1984 movie of the same name starring Kevin Bacon, will run in the theatre until Saturday, October 28.

With a cast of approximately 60 people, the show bounces off the stage to get the audience up dancing in the aisles with well-known songs including ‘Holdin’ Out for a Hero’, ‘Let’s Hear it for the Boy’ and of course, ‘Footloose’.

The story revolves around a teenage boy called Ren who is forced to move from Chicago with his mother to a small backwater town in the USA called Bomont. Ren soon falls into trouble with the law as he discovers that dancing is banned in the town.

Local Reverend, Shaw Moore has a tight grip over the community and has them convinced that dancing, alcohol and rock’n’roll music is a bad influence. Ren ends up falling for the reverend’s rebellious daughter, Ariel.

Ren and Ariel are played by Nathan Fitzpatrick and Niamh Bolger and the reverend and his wife Vi, are played by OLTG stalwarts Greg Currid and Majella Londra.

Other OLTG regulars include Neal O’Leary, Marian O’Leary and Andy Fanning.

The young chorus brighten up the stage with their energy, starting off the show as conservative children following the rules and ending up fighting for their rights.

Imelda McDonagh returns to OLTG as director after directing AIMS award winning show, Hairspray in 2015. Suzanne O’Leary and Patrick Clancy, founding members of OLTG, return as choreographer and musical director respectively.

Greg O’Leary, the group’s Chairperson is returning as Stage Manager and Mark Redmond as set and lighting designer.

Tickets for the show have been on sale for over a month now after OLTG introduced a brand new online ticket system this year which allows you to choose your own seat in the theatre and the option to purchase a programme if you wish.

The show is expected to be a sellout, and you can get tickets online at www.oysterlane.com and tickets start at €15. Alternatively, the Dun Mhuire box office is open 12.30 p.m.-2.30 p.m. weekdays and 12 p.m.-4 p.m. on the weekend.

You can call 053-9123061 between these hours to book. ‘Footloose’ runs at the Dun Mhuire Theatre until Saturday, October 28 with curtain up at 8 p.m. each night
