Taghmon-Camross share ten goals in Leinster loss

-

JUNIOR LADIES’ football champions Taghmon-Camross travelled to Bray recently and gave a sterling account of themselves against a big, talented Cuala side from the capital in the Leinster championship.

The Wexford winners are making great strides in both women’s games, having recently qualified for their county camogie final too. They represented their county with pride in this encounter, despite a tough, nervy first-half.

Coming out of Dublin, with their endless resources and stream of talented players, Cuala had been tested hard on their way to beating Lucan Sarsfields in the county Junior ‘A’ final.

That level of competition clearly stood to them as they flew out of the blocks.

They were a big side too and they were able to use their size and strength advantage to roar into a considerable lead at the half-time interval. Winning all the high balls, the Dublin team built a 3-10 to 0-2 advantage after 30 minutes.

For Taghmon-Camross, after a long and memorable, season, a first-half in which they hadn’t played their natural running game wasn’t the way they wanted to bow out.

Instead, they knuckled down and produced a fantastic second-half display.

Led by the supreme Tara Whitty, the Taghmon-Camross defence began to win the one-on-one battles and break with quality from deep. Getting more of the ball, from better delivery, the forwards also found their feet.

There was just much more composure about the Wexford side after the break.

Sarah Banville was magnificent in the second period and led by example. Superb passing moves up the field led to several fantastic goals as Taghmon-Camross outscored their talented opponents in the second-half.

Ciara Banville scored an excellent individual goal.

With low, accurate ball coming in, suiting the nippy Taghmon-Camross forwards, Ailish Sinnott and Michelle Carty also found the net to put a much fairer reflection on the scoreboard at full-time.
