Second for sidecar duo

-

SIDECAR RACERS Mark Codd and Liam Gordon did what seemed like the impossible in clinching second place in the Irish Superbike Masters Championship on September 30 and October 1 in Mondello park with three second place finishes in their three races over the weekend.

In only their first season in the sidecar class, they pulled off an amazing finish to their year, a task not usually seen in professional motorcycle racing.

To say the guys are delighted would be a bit of an understatement. They are already making plans for 2018, hoping to take their results one stage further and secure the top podium step as many times as they can.

Already seen as a formidable force in their chosen sport, surely the other teams must be not only impressed but also worried that the guys will take wins and hopefully the championship.

In the previous round, Codd and Gordon had a fantastic weekend’s racing in Bishopscourt racing circuit just outside Downpatrick, Co. Down, getting three second places and a third in their four races which is an amazing result given that this was only their second outing in the new outfit.

Meanwhile, Graham Whitmore also had a fantastic ending to his first season in the Supersport Cup on his Kawasaki ZX6 600cc bike, claiming third place in the championship with two fourths and a second place in what was a very good weekend for him.

He also had a pretty serious crash, though, in which the bone in his right thumb came through the skin and landed him in hospital, so it was a bitter-sweet ending to his 2017 season.

Graham is also looking forward to 2018 and will be trying to better this year’s results also.

Graham Kennedy had a good weekend in the recent round of road racing in Killilane, securing a sixth and a seventh place, bringing an end to the 2017 road racing season in which he had some very good results.

It was also a good weekend in Killilane for Gorey man Thomas Whitmore, getting a sixth place in very trying conditions where heavy rain and windy weather hampered the racers and brought an early finish to the racing as it was deemed too dangerous to continue.
