SCOUTS
22 beavers from Kilmore joined approximately 150 others from around the county at an Emergencies Day in Piercestown Scout centre last Sunday. They received demonstrations, talks and exercises from Gardaí, Marine Watch, Coast Guards, Order of Malta, RNLI and a Fun Base also. A wonderful day had by all.
DRAMA GRANT
Ballycogley Players have been successful in sourcing a Grant to do Community Theatre in Tomhaggard social centre starting beginning of Nov. It’s a 6/8 week course covering basic drama techniques, exercises, create a short piece for performance in Dec. Open to Secondary school students to senior citizens. INFORMATION NIGHT
The St Fintan’s GAA Club held a club/school links information night in the scout hall Ballymore during the past week with Willie Cleary from Wexford County Board as facilitator. We look forward to further updates on this matter in the near future.
ST FINTANSTO THE FORE
Some 40 years ago a Wexford district team became the first aqnd only district team to be crowned senior football champions. The final was played in Belfield versus Bunclody and the panel of players included 10 from the St Fintan’s club. If anyone out there can supply any type of photograph from that time the club would very much appreciate it.
GAA LOTTO
The St Fintan’s GAA lotto draw scheduled for Tuesday, October 17, did not take place due to the power failure but tickets sold for that draw will now be used for the draw on Tuesday, October 24, Additional tickets were not sold, but ticket sales will be as normal following this draw at €1.50 each. We apologise for any inconvience caused and thank you for your continued support.
ICA GUILD NEWS
The most recent Killinick ICA meeting was attended by Mary Quirke (president) plus 11 fellow members. The group decided to hold a coffee evening in the Danby Lodge with the proceeds going to Palative Care a date for the fundraiser to be arranged later.
The competition winners were Mary Fenlon, Mary Sinnott and Mary Quirke and the competition for the next meeting on November 6 is autumn leaves. Margo Finn and Leish McDonnell were the hostesses for the evening and Breda Wright and Kathleen Nolan will host the November meeting. Angela Byrne gave a demonstration and arranged to do classes on sewing, chalk paint and decopage in the near future.

The one-act journey continues for the Players when they will perform their ‘Night of Comedy’ on Friday, November 10, in St Martin’s GAA Complex, Piercestown and also on Sunday, November 12, in Carrig-on-Bannow Hall with an 8 p.m. start time on both nights. Looking forward to seeing you all.

Huge congratulations to club player Padhraic Rossiter and his wife Lesley on the arrival of their first born, little Matilda Rose. Baby Tilly arrived amid the ‘red alert’ on Monday bringing a hurricane of excitement and delight to both families. Welcome to the crazy and magical world of parenthood, enjoy every minute of this most precious of times.
SHIELD FINAL
From start to finish it was a game full of grit and determination with both teams giving it their very best with some great football played in dreadful conditions. The lads stayed focused when the pressure came on and played as a team which brought them to the final whistle with that epic one point victory. Well done to all the players and their mentors, Mick, Donal and John Snr. It has been a long season since March with a huge effort put in by everyone week in week out.
The lads have again done both parishes and clubs of St Fintan’s and Our Lady’s Island very proud. Many thanks to St Fintan’s club sponsor Tony Wright and Wright Insurance Brokers, the new jerseys definitely played a part in the victory.

Minor championship has only started for 2017 season and last Sunday morning Kilross Gaels minor camogie team played their first match v Oylegate coming out with all three points winning on a scoreline of 3-8 to 2-5. Well done girls a great team performance. Next up is St Annne’s on Sunday the 29th at 11 a.m. Best of luck, girls. After being battered by Hurricane Ophelia we are back to normal. Our annual fun table quiz will be held on Thursday next October 26, in Quigley’s pub in Kilmore. The South East Regional Ten-Pin Bowling tournament was held on Wednesday the 18th, we were only mentioned in dispatches.
Bowls: Monday, October 30, Kilmore Seals away to the Ballagh at 2 p.m. Every Tuesday in the SMC bowls practice for the teams at 7 p.m.

Opera Festival Bridge Morning by the Sea takes place in the Stella Maris Centre on Wednesday, October 25, at 10 a.m. Entry fee will be €25 which includes refreshments on arrival, a hot lunch tea or coffee and a selection of confectionery. Congratulations to Kilmore Athletics Club on a strong finish in the ladies 5km Cross County race in a surprisingly calm and mild Sunday before Hurricane Ophelia. KAC took first Fiona Kehoe, third Jackie Carty and fourth Elaine Cardiff. These ladies along with Sinéad O’Brien and Fidelma Rossiter will form part of the Wexford team representing our county at the Leinster Senior Championships at Adamstown, Co. Wexford on November 12 next.
Michael Flaherty also ran well for Kilmore in the Senior Men’s 10km on an unrelentingly hilly course.
BREAST CANCER AWARENESS
A coffee morning for breast cancer awareness will take place at Murphys Day break Kilmore on Friday 27 th October from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tea, coffee, and other baked goodies from the lovely ladies behind the Deli will be served up. So come along and take time out and chat and treat yourself in the name of a good cause. All donations in aid of this very good cause will be accepted and very much appreciated. A raffle will also take place with some lovely prizes, so come along and tell your friends.
