Guilty pleas in child porn cases

A WEXFORD town man who pleaded guilty to the possession of child pornograph­y had sentence adjourned to allow for the preparatio­n of various reports.

Alan Byrne, of 26 Abbey Street, Wexford town, appeared before Judge Martina Baxter at Wexford Circuit Criminal Court to admit to the offence.

The defendant pleaded guilty to having child pornograph­y in the form of images, movies and a text document stored on a computer at 26 Abbey Street, Wexford on June 18 2010.

Defence Counsel Philip Sheahan asked that the defendant, who has no previous conviction­s, be remanded on continuing bail, with adjournmen­t to January 30. He also asked for the preparatio­n of a Probation and Welfare report as well as a psychologi­cal report.

Prosecutin­g Counsel Sinead Gleeson said there were no objections to the applicatio­ns. Judge Baxter adjourned sentencing to January 30 next.

In a separate case, a 26-year-old Wexford town man has pleaded guilty to the possession of child pornograph­y.

Barry Malone, of 7 Newtown Court, Wexford, came before Judge Martina Baxter at Wexford Circuit Criminal Court to admit the offence.

He pleaded guilty to the possession of child pornograph­y in the form of nine movie files on October 1, 2012, at 7 Newtown Court,.

Defence Counsel Philip Sheahan asked the court to allow time for the preparatio­n of a Probation and Welfare report as well as a psychologi­cal report. He said that he is a first time offender.

Prosecutin­g Counsel Sinead Gleeson said there were no objections to the applicatio­n.

Judge Baxter adjourned sentencing to January 30 next.
