Horetown’s Jim Morrissey loved fishing and gardening

-

JAMES (JIM) MORRISSEY, late of Horetown, Foulksmills, was a man who lived an independent life despite suffering from polio from childhood.

Jim passed away peacefully at Wexford General Hospital on October 20. He is survived by his sisters Margaret and Mary; brother Sean and is sadly missed by his loving family, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.

He was predeceased by his sister Kathleen and brothers Nick and Willie.

Jim lived all his life at the Morrissey family home in Horetown. He attended Clongeen NS and afterwards developed a passion for several sports. Although his illness prevented him from working, Jim did not let polio hold him back from enjoying his life. Jim enjoyed watching soccer matches and darts on the television. He travelled to see Wexford hurlers play on several occasions.

He could often by found in his local playing darts and over the years he competed in numerous competitions across the county, often bringing home a turkey in the Christmas dart tournaments.

He also loved fishing and was an independent man.

Quiet and unassuming, Jim never had a bad word to say about anybody. He enjoyed life’s simple pleasures, including growing vegetables in his garden.

Sadly Jim fell ill two years ago. He died at Wexford General Hospital aged 76 on October 20.

A large crowd attended Jim’s funeral Mass at the Church of the Assumption Little Cullenstown and burial afterwards in Clongeen Cemetery.

May his gentle soul rest in peace.
