Double delight in Roscrea

-

THE WEXFORD Wanderers first and second teams travelled to Roscrea for back-to-back games.

The seconds were up first and set the tone for the day with a defeat of the host side. The front seven and back eight worked harmoniously both defensively and in attack, letting just one unconverted try slip past but succeeding in struggling over the line four times and getting between the posts twice, once for a conversion and once for a penalty.

The result was a whopping 25-5 victory for Wexford. Scores were provided by Conor Foley, John Gannon, Roger Duggan and Robert O’Leary.

The first side followed suit in their fixture, again bettering the Roscrea men.

This time vital scores were provided with two tries each for Daragh Kehoe and John Turner and a fifth being added by Liam Barry.

Defensively the firsts weren’t quite as successful as their predecessors, allowing the home side three trips across the white paint but the day ended with two happy Wexford sides. The final score was Wexford Wanderers 27, Roscrea 17.

Elsewhere the Wexford women’s side, the Vixens, suffered a brutal defeat at the hands of Balbriggan. The north Dublin side are currently top of the table and showed a Wexford team weakened by injuries exactly why that is.

A definitive 43-0 victory for Balbriggan earned them a bonus point and stretched their lead, but Wexford have vowed to return the favour when they play host later in the season.
