On behalf of the committee of the Crossabeg-Ballymurn Community Centre we are sorry to inform you that we will be unable to run our highly successful house of Horrors this year due to the unavailabi­lity of a suitable venue. We hope to find an alternativ­e venue for next year. Apologies to all concerned and we wish all the community of Crossabeg and Ballymurn a safe and scary Halloween.

CHURCH GATE COLLECTION

The Wexford Branch of Down Syndrome Ireland are holding a church gate collection in Ballymurn on Saturday, November 4, and Sunday, November 5. Every cent will remain in the Wexford branch to be used for the benefit of all the Down Syndrome children and adults. A permit has been granted by An Garda Síochána, your support would be very greatly appreciate­d.

Blackwater COMMUNITY CRAFT FAIR

This year’s community craft day is being held in the Blackwater Lodge on Sunday, November 26. This has been a successful promotion, exhibition and sales of crafts of the highest standard for the past number of years. GIRL GUIDES

The Guides and Rangers had a great time at the Oyster Lane show Footloose on Monday last. The Guides and Rangers are off to the IOAC centre on the Bank Holiday Monday for a fun Halloween night of shooting zombie’s. The Cygnets and Brigins had a fun Halloween party on Tuesday with lots of tricks and treats. It’s only a few more weeks and the girls will be off to see Disney on Ice in City West. Wednesday, November 1, is the feast of All-Saints and Masses in Crossabeg church will be offered up at 11.15 a.m. And again in the evening at 7 p.m. Thursday, November 2, is the feast of AllSouls and Mass will be offered up at 11.15 a.m. with a Healing Mass at 7 p.m. in the evening.

PARISH CONCERT

A parish Variety Concert will be held in Ferrycarri­g hotel on Thursday, November 9, commencing at 8 p.m. Tickets are €10 for adults with children being admitted for free. All proceeds are in aid of church funds.

ATHLETICS

St Killian’s AC senior athlete. Niall Sheil travelled to Abbotstown recently compete in the autumn Cross Country race. In one of the biggest races in the cross country season it also doubles up as the Masters Internatio­nal qualifiers for the upcoming five Nations Championsh­ips.

Niall had one of the finest races of his career working his way through the field to finish with a fantastic last lap in second place in the ultra competitiv­e over 40 category. This follows on from the previous week where he finished second in the County Senior Cross Country Championsh­ips on a gruelling 10k course in Ferns.

This result in Abbotstown is the culminatio­n of weeks and months of consistent, dedicated work. Special mention to his coach Pavel Kolesnikov, who has been instrument­al in guiding Niall over the past 15 years. It is great to see this work paying off with the honour of getting selected to represent his club and country in four weeks time in Derry. We wish Niall and Pavel all the best as they prepare for the championsh­ips.

JUVENILE ATHLETICS

With the dark evenings setting in, training for the juvenile members of St Killian’s AC will re-locate to Crossabeg national school hall on Monday, November 6, and continue every Monday and Thursday evening from 7 p.m. to 8.15 p.m. Coffee morning.

Annis Kehoe of Slaneylodg­e, Crossabeg, is once again planning to take to the roads for a very deserving Charity. In March of next year, she will undertake the very gruelling road cycle from here to Lourdes with all proceeds in aid of the Irish Pilgrimage Trust. The Irish Pilgrimage Trust funds children and young people with special needs to take them to Lourdes. The Trust also assists with the upkeep and running costs of their centres in Clarinbrid­ge, Co. Galway and Kilrane in Co. Wexford.

The venue for the coffee morning is Kyle Forge and this very relaxing and eagerly awaited event will take place on Saturday, December 9, from 10 a.m. till 2 p.m. There will be many mouth-watering goodies on offer – small/ big Christmas puddings; Gluten free Christmas cakes; biscuit cakes; lemon drizzle cakes; tarts; bracks; mince tarts; jams; chutneys; breads; fresh vegetables and potatoes and holly wreaths. YOUTH CLUB NEWS

A great time was had by all members of the local Crossabeg Youth Club in Kyle Forge recently at their scary movie night get together. Well done to all who entered the quiz night in Oylegate hall. The under-15s performed very well indeed and will now go forward to represent the district in the all-Ireland Youth Quiz next year.

The teams finished as follows: Eamonn Moran, Adam Murphy, Niall Cullen, Ros Walker (first place) Aisling Murphy, Alannah McDonald, Eimear Halpin, Ava Kearney (second place) Matilda Meaney, Eloise O’Boyle-Ferguson, Chrislyn Forde, Alex Maher (fourth place) and Aaron Quinn, Padraic O’Carroll, Jack Purcell, Hugh Boggan in sixth place.

There will be no Youth club meeting this Friday, November 3.

SENIOR CITIZENS

The annual Christmas party for the senior citizens of the parish will be held in Ferrycarri­g hotel on Sunday, December 9.Members of the organising committee will be calling on all householde­rs in the coming weeks for their generous support for the event. Invitation­s will also be issued shortly to our senior citizens.

Oulart SPLIT-THE-POT

The latest winner of Scoil Mochua’s split-the-pot was GA Wynne, who won €230. There was also a lucky-dip win of €50 for Tony Heffernan. The next draw will be held on Monday, November 6. Entry envelopes are available from local businesses.

CAMOGIE CLUB

In conjunctio­n with the club sponsor Corrigan’s Spar and Family Butchers and Super Chips, well – known chef and food writer Edward Hayden will give a cookery demonstrat­ion in the Riverside Hotel, Enniscorth­y at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, November 28. Alongside Edward’s cooking delights, there will be a variety of stalls showcasing their products. It promises to be a great night’s entertainm­ent. Tickets cost €15 each or two for €25 and will be available from camogie club members and the club committee.

SCÓR NA NÓG

The semi-final of Scór na nÓg (under 17 years) will be held in Inch Hall on Saturday, November 18. The Scór na nÓg table quiz will be held on November 9 in Piercestow­n. Contact Breda Jacob if you are interested in taking part in any Scór event.

WEDDINGS BELLS

Congratula­tions and best wishes for the future to Garry Morton, Raheenduff, Oulart and Vicki Cooney, Ballygow, Carrig-on-Bannow, who were married in Mary Immaculate and St Joseph’s Chapel in Carrig-on-Bannow on Friday, September 22. Though it was raining at the start, by lunch time the sun shone brightly on the happy couple. They, their families and other guests enjoyed a wonderful reception in the beautiful Riverside Park Hotel, Enniscorth­y where the celebratio­ns carried on till the wee small hours.

COUNTY FINAL

It would be remiss of me not to mention the recent county final defeat of our gallant senior hurlers or to fail to acknowledg­e the wonderful achievemen­ts of this remarkable group of men who have elevated the club to second place in the Wexford Senior Hurling Roll of Honour.

Winning 13 titles (1997-2016), a record Five-in-a-row (2009-2013) and a Leinster club title, while all the time, displaying abundant skill, determinat­ion and sportsmans­hip and being wonderful role models to youngsters from the parish and the county. Furthermor­e, it is much too early to be writing them off as future contenders. Coffee morning.

The recent coffee morning in aid of Oulart Community Centre was reasonably successful. The proceeds will help to defray some of the costs of maintainin­g the centre. Many thanks to the O’Toole family for the use of Marty’s Bar and for all their practical help on the day. Thanks also to all who donated confection­ary and raffle prizes. CURRACLOE AFC NEWS

Curracloe United AFC had no winners of their jackpot and no match-three winners either in their weekly lotto draw on Sunday, October 22. The numbers drawn were 10, 20, 23 and 27. The club will host their annual table quiz on Friday, November 10 in Hotel Curracloe commencing at 9 p.m. Entry fee of €20 for a team of four members. There will be a raffle on the night and lots of spot prizes.

Curracloe Community Playgroup Ltd will hold their re-scheduled annual general meeting on Monday, November 6, at 8 p.m in the community centre.

SCREEN HALL AGM

A reminder that the committee of Screen hall will hold their annual general meeting on Monday, November 6, at 8.30 p.m. If you would like to put forward some new ideas, then please go along to the meeting. The hall caters for various fitness classes, birthday parties, charity events and meetings. CURRACLOE SCHOOL NEWS

Well done to Mr Morgan Mannion, who won €130 in this week’s split-the-pot draw. Many thanks for the continued support. Next draw takes place on Wednesday, November 8, On Tuesday, October 24, the whole school took part in a ‘Dress Up Sponsored Walk’ around the village. This was a very enjoyable experience for everyone and raised €1838.84 for the school. Well done to all the children and thank you to all the generous sponsors and to the parents who helped out on the day.

There was great excitement in the school recently when a magic show visited the school. The show was arranged by Wexford County Council and used a very imaginativ­e and awe inspiring way to encourage the children to recycle. The children were amazed by tricks performed by the amazing Kevin from Kano Arts. All of the children participat­ed and got involved in the show. They even joined in with the ‘recycle rap.

The message ‘Reduce, Reuse, Recycle’ will certainly be on everyone’s lips in Curracloe. Many thanks to the parents’ associatio­n for organising the recent used clothes collection, and to all who supported it so generously.

The children participat­ed really enthusiast­ically in Maths Week Activities including class puzzles and brain teasers, Manga High activities and playground mazes. Well done to the girls and boys who proceeded to thequarter finals in the Rackard League.

HANDBALL NEWS

The winner of last week’s Bingo Bonus Ball draw was Rita Mythen, Brendan Murphy was the previous weeks winner Well done to Shane Birney, John Roche, Terry Gainfort, Paudie Devereux and Joe Devereux, who have reached the semi-finals of the Leinster Junior B Inter-Club team competitio­n being played in Carlow on Wednesday, November 1.
