HOSPICE COFFEE DAY

The coffee day hosted by Gerald and Mary Kelly, Wilkinstow­n on Thursday, September 28, for Wexford Hospice Homecare raised the sum of €2,600. Many thanks to everyone for their support and generous donations for this worthy cause. Special gratitude is extended to the Camross ICA for their help and support on the day and also to all the other ICA guild members that came along to give support.

YOUTH CHOIR

Barntown Parish Youth Choir will held their first rehearsal on Thursday, October 26, at 6.50 p.m. in Barntown Church. The choir is open to all fourth Class Primary to sixth Year Secondary School pupils. BPYC endeavours to enrich, inspire, motivate and engage all the musical talent in the parish.

Hard luck to our under-16 camogie team who were beaten in the premier semi-final by St Martin’s last Sunday morning. A great bunch of girls with a bright future ahead. Thanks to all the mentors and parents for their hard work and support.

A great new Glynn-Barntown initiative starting for all primary school children over the winter months – a one-hour physical activity class with experience­d coaches.

SUNDAYS starting November 5 at the Hurling Wall 10.11 a.m. Second, third, fourth classes.

SUNDAYS starting November 5 at the Hurling Wall 11 a.m. to midday fifth, sixth classes.

TUESDAYS starting November 7 in Barntown Hall 6.15 p.m. to 7.15 p.m. Junior, Senior Infants and first class.

WEDNESDAYS starting November 8 in Glynn Hall 6.15 p.m. to 7.15 p.m. Junior, Senior Infants and first class. €2 per session.

DISTRICT FINAL - Congratula­tions to the Girls’ Football team from Barntown, who won the District Final last Thursday defeating Oylegate in a very exciting final. What a great achievemen­t – well done girls.

COMMUNITY THEATRE

Are you interested in doing a six-week course in Tomhaggard social centre on aspects of theatre and drama? Ballycogle­y Players have secured a Grant from Creative Ireland to do a course and short performanc­e piece. Areas covered include fun exercises, drama, backstage and create a piece for performanc­e, only limited by your imaginatio­n. It’s open to Secondary school students to senior citizens. KNITTING/STITCHING

FUNDRAISER

Róisín Barry wishes to thank most sincerely all who made their fundraiser such a great success: to those who baked fabulous buns and cakes, all who gave so generously on the day and who donated spot prizes. The amount raised has exceeded all our expectatio­ns, it now stands at €3,000.

RNLI COFFEE

There is a coffee morning in aid of Kilmore Quay Lifeboat, Sunday, November 19, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the station. Christmas cards, diaries and calendars will all be available on the day.

Lifeboat shop is open Saturdays and Sundays weather permitting.

BALLYCOGLE­Y PLAYERS

Following on from four very successful and enjoyable nights in St Michael’s Hall recently, the one act journey continues for the Players when they will perform their ‘Night of Comedy’ on Friday, November 10, in St Martin’s GAA Complex, Piercestow­n and also on Sunday, November 12, in Carrig-on-Bannow Hall with an 8 p.m. start time on both nights. Admission €10. Looking forward to seeing you all for a great night of laughter and entertainm­ent.

Congratula­tions to our group members Breda and Nick Hayes, who were awarded gold Meritoriou­s Awards and their daughter Laura, who was awarded a silver Meritoriou­s Award for their services to Scouting last week. KILMORE AC

The Master races for both men and women were very hotly contested from age categories 35 to 75 in Abottstown, Co. Dublin today. Weather conditions were perfect for runners as the course itself was testing enough with a little bit of every challenge to make the athletes earn their positions the hard way.

Massive congratula­tions to Fiona Kehoe and Jackie Carthy on winning silver medals in their ‘very hotly contested’ respective age categories and thus hopefully qualifying for Irish team. Nár laige Dia bhúr láimh.

GAA LOTTO

Londis Supermarke­t will be undergoion­g renovation­s over the next five weeks. We wish to apologise in advance for the disturbanc­e. Week one – The Butchers Counter will close (for one week only) but prepack will be still available. Week two – The Delis will close (one week only).

It is a major renovation and we hope it does not cause too much inconvenie­nce. We hope you will be as excited as we are about the new look store inn Our Lady’s Island.

RACKARD LEAGUE

Huge congratula­tions to the girls of Our Lady’s Island and Mayglass National Schools on a dramatic extra time win over the Crossabeg and Ballymurn National Schools in their Football District semi-final last week. Hey now have a final to look forward against Gaelscoil Wexford currently scheduled November 7 at 3 p.m. in Kilmore. Keep the date in your diary.

ONE ACT FESTIVALS

Camross Hall Committee send best wishes to Camross Drama Group, who will compete in the One Act festivals over the coming weeks, performing in Goresbridg­e, Moate, Kilmallock, Cavan and Cork with their play, ‘Larry’ written by Henry Hudson and directed by Mary Brown. Break a leg.

LADIES’ FOOTBALL

Our Junior A team were in hard luck not to win the League Final on Sunday, October 22, after being six points ahead with 12 minutes remaining Castletown hit a purple patch and scored 2-02 in the dying minutes of the game to snatch a dramatic victory winning by two points at the end.

It would have been the perfect end to a long hard season to do the double but it was a fantastic achievemen­t to win the Junior A championsh­ip, finish runners-up in the league and so qualify to play intermedia­te football next year.

Well done to all the girls for all their hard work this year and best of luck for next year.

FAMILY RESOURCE CENTRE

ART EXHIBITION – Due to storm Ophellia the Men’s Shed have reschedule­d their exhibition of paintings for Wednesday, November 1, in the Family Resource Centre from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. This is the culminatio­n of a 10-week project under Wexford County Council’s Artist in the Community Scheme with artist Kate Murphy.

The exhibition documents the buildings of Taghmon and surroundin­g areas in a series of oil painting on MDF panels. All are welcome to see the fabulous works that were produced.

CREATIVE ARTS PROGRAMME – There are just a few remaining places available on this programme running two mornings a week till June 2018. The programme consists of Digital photograph­y and Visual art. If you are unemployed and aged between 18 and 35 then you are eligible for this free programme. This is run in conjunctio­n with Waterford and Wexford Education and Training Board.

TALKING TO TEENS – This programme can help parents to build good relationsh­ips with their teenage children. Starting on Wednesday, November 9, this six-week programme is free of charge but booking is essential.
