‘Return our books’ plea after book thief strikes

- By DAVID TUCKER

A mean-spirited Book Thief raided the newly-installed Little Free Library in Wexford’s Whitebrook Estate on Thursday night, taking every single book from its shelves.

Local residents are outraged and children in the area are upset that someone could be so selfish and inconsiderate.

‘The great thing about this is that the residents will not let these low lifes ruin the great community project that we have in our estate,’ said local resident Aislinn Wallace.

The Little Free Libaries have proved a big success since the idea was first mooted by Leonard Kelly, who said while it was sad that the library had been robbed, the community in Whitebroom had not been let down by this selfish individual because the library was quicky refilled.

Leanoard said it was important to remember that the little free librairies are for all the community, not just any individual and urged whomever tooK them to return them.

Local resident Niamh Hatchell said children from the Bumblebees Creche in the estate are regular visitors and bring the books back in time for the creche.

‘We even gave the Little Library its own page of Facebook, so that we can recommend books to each other, request specific books and just keep everyone up to date on the contents. It has been such a lovely experience and it is with real disappointment that I tell you now of its ransacking,’ she said.
