WEXFORD County Council’s Local Enterprise Offices has published area-based socio-economic profiles containing a wealth of information which will be very useful to anybody developing an enterprise strategy and/or business plan or researching the potential market for their business in County Wexford.

The up-to-date statistical information has been produced under 7 headings: ‘Demography’, Education, Economy Status, ‘Industry & Occupations’, ‘Housing’, ‘Transport’ and Connectivity’.

All the information, which has been previously published in this newspaper, can be easily accessed by visiting the Wexford LEO website www.localenterprise.ie/wexford or the Business section of Wexford County Council’s website, www.wexfordcoco.ie.

The data within each profile has been extracted from the 2016 Census. Among its findings:

· 94,297 people live within a 30-minute drive of Wexford.

· 60,825 graduates live within a one-hour drive of New Ross.

. 69,287 households within one-hour drive of Gorey use oil as their main heating fuel.

· 3,210 families within 30-minute drive of Enniscorthy are classed as retired.

The profiles provide vital information on the scale of the potential customer market within close proximity of each of the towns of Wexford, Enniscorthy, New Ross and Gorey. They provide this information for the town area itself and then repeat the information for two larger catchment areas, within a 30 minute drive and within a one hour drive of each town.

Councillor Michael Sheehan, Chairman of Wexford County Council’s Economic and Enterprise Development Committee said these the profiles provide proposed and existing enterprises with up-to-date, accurate datasets which they can use to develop and grow their business.

‘The information available can assist in benchmarking sales figures with a database of potential customers or provide insight into a preferential location for an expansion plan. These profiles represent an incredible resource of free, accurate and relevant information for anybody wishing to expand an existing business or set up a new business here in County Wexford,’ he said.

Tom Banville, Head of Enterprise at Wexford Local Enterprise Office (LEO), said the profiles represent a fantastic resource for anyone in business or engaged in the development of a business plan. The profile comes with a detailed database containing all of the source indicators. The data and accompanying graphics can be used as input to reports, presentations and other marketing material.
