AIB Seminar to look at future of farming and optimising income

-

THE future of farming in Ireland will be the burning topic on everyone’s lips at a free seminar hosted by AIB at The Riverside Park Hotel next Tuesday, November 7. The seminar will look at ‘optimising your farm income’ and will welcome farmers from Wexford, Wicklow and Carlow.

Among the guest speakers scheduled for the night are Sean Molloy from Glanbia, Joe Burke from Bord Bia and Deputy President of the IFA Richard Kennedy.

‘We are finding that many farmers are considering how best to position their farms for the future. Some are expanding, some consolidating, and some focused on improving on-farm efficiencies,’ said AIB Agri-Advisor Liam Phelan. ‘Irrespective of future farm plans, managing farm cashflow will be essential, as volatility is the new norm and should be factored into all plans, both long and short term. I would encourage any farmer contemplating farm investment or seeking additional working capital to make early contact with their bank to see how best we can support your individual needs.’

The free seminar gets under way at 8 p.m. and refreshments will be served from 7.30 p.m. The event is open to AIB and non-AIB customers and further information is available from Emer Coleman on 053 9122444 or emer.a.coleman@aib.ie. CLLR Barbara Anne Murphy has called for 1798 monuments around the district to be cleaned in preparation for the 220th anniversary.

Speaking at the recent Enniscorthy Municipal District Meeting, Cllr Murphy said that quite a lot of the monuments ‘need some work’ and this should be done ahead of the next milestone.

District Manager Liz Hore said that the topic might be something which could be raised with a steering committee which is being set up to deal with the 220th anniversary of what was a momentous year for the cause of Irish freedom.

Director of Services John Carley agreed that something should be done to ensure the monuments are looking well saying: ‘I agree they should be kept looking well out of respect.’
