Attack-minded Gorey seal win

Under-17 team in top form

-

A BEAUTIFUL afternoon at Gorey R.F.C. saw the Under-17s take on Carlow.

From the first whistle Gorey went on the attack. After a few phases a try was scored and this set the tone for the rest of the half when everything went well for the home team.

Training ground moves worked perfectly, virtually every pass went to hand, and the lads’ tackling and defensive duties were working very well. Carlow’s big ball carriers were chopped down time after time, and as the first-half finished Gorey led 31-7.

The second-half got under way and the Carlow team woke up and started to exert pressure on Gorey, with their forwards making holes in the defence line.

The visitors took control for the first time. Gorey were on the back foot and defending well, but lapses in focus and concentration were putting them under pressure and Carlow managed to stage a mini comeback.

But at the end of the day Gorey stiffened their resolve and won well (46-19).

Gorey: Ben Ivory, Donnacha Cooke, Martin O’Loughlin, Elliot Young (two tries), Jack Colclough, Joe Tallon (try), Mark Boyle (try), George Slattery (try), Cathal Stokes, Ryan Kinsella, Adam Byrne, Callum Popplewell, Micheál Kennedy, Oisín Fortune (two tries). Replacements - Rhys Slator, Steve Doran, J.J. O’Neill, Hugh O’Brien, Gonzalo Sanchez, Eoin Canavan, Seán Timmons, Brian O’Leary, Mark Doyle.
