Great team effort from Enniscorthy girls

-

ENNISCORTHY 65, GOREY 28: The Enniscorthy Under-16 girls took on Gorey in a home friendly at the weekend.

Gorey had a great start with a try and a conversion ten minutes in. Two minutes later, after a great catch and a strong run to follow, Lauren Delaney grounded the ball for Enniscorthy’s first try.

Katie Whelan, with her super speed, got two more tries in the 14th and 19th minutes, with Aoife Codd converting one.

Our newcomer, Emer Fitzgerald, made some great moves to get her over the line to score our fourth try.

The Gorey girls had some work to do and they did just that by scoring two more tries and converting both coming up to half-time.

With only one point in it, it was all to play for (22-21).

The second-half started at a fast pace again as Katie Whelan got in once more for another try, followed by a try from Ciara Boland.

The Gorey girls battled on and scored their fourth try which was converted.

From there on Enniscorthy stepped it up with tries coming from Katie Whelan, Mia Kelly (two), Lucy Egan and Ava O’Connor, with Mia converting three.

It was another great team effort supporting each other all the way to the end for the Enniscorthy girls who won 65-28.

The next match is on Saturday, November 11, away to Athy.
