Cracking contest in Unraced Stake

-

AS EXPECTED, there was a big turn-out at Enniscorthy dog track on bank holiday Sunday night for the final of the Red Mills Future Champion Unraced Stake, and it turned out to be a cracking contest with a head deciding the outcome.

As traps went up it was trap four runner Badminton Ronan who broke well and went straight for the rails, thus hampering favourite Running Senor who never recovered after that.

Badminton went clear into the back straight but Burgess Brandy was looming large and made his challenge going into the third bend.

Sunset Jessie was running second on his outside at this time and the question was, could he get through on the inside as Badminton was still a few lengths to the good?

The answer was yes as Burgess pushed through and set about running down the leader.

In a desperate run for the line Burgess was in full flow and got up in the shadow of the post to grab this very important prize. Burgess has been sold to the Peter Cronin kennels in Kilkenny, and Shelbourne is his next likely outing.

Laurence Bolton-Lee enjoyed a nice win in the Heineken A2 final, race four on the card, with his Longslip Billy who put in a strong run down the back straight to settle this contest, running on well to hold the finishing run of Tycoon Prince in a good 28.93.

Race five was the Vimmerby @ stud consolation stake final and it saw a good performance from Piercestown Lord who got away well and led all the way for a snug one and a half length success in this valuable event.

Novice Tarsna Jo stepped up to A1 class and ran out a good winner of the last race on the card, recording a solid 28.98. Tarsna had run well in the Future Champion Stake and the form looks very strong after this result.

It was a most enjoyable night’s racing, and well done to Red Mills Feeding for their sponsorship which continues to make this one of the top puppy stakes in the country.
