YellowBelly Beer toast landmark year with the launch of a new dark red ale

- By ESTHER HAYDEN

THIS year continues to be a landmark year for Wexford brewery YellowBelly Beer.

Beginning with the opening of their new 10,000 sq. ft. facility in January, 2017 has already seen the installation of a new 6000L brewhouse, once owned by craft beer legends BrewDog; the addition of a state-of-the-art Wild Goose canning line; a UK-wide tap takeover event on St Patricks Day; and the commencement of YellowBelly Beer exports to Northern Ireland, UK and Italy.

Now, the fruit of their labour is receiving international acclaim, with the inclusion of their ‘Citra Pale Ale’ in a new ‘bookazine’ called ‘Craft Beer: 365 Best Beers in the World’.

Written by UK Beer Experts Chris Hall, Matthew Curtis and Claire Bullen, it trawls the world of craft beer to bring its readers the very best, with one such beer belonging to some very happy brewers in Wexford. ‘Citra Pale Ale’ is one of YellowBelly Beer’s flagship range and is currently widely available across multiple bars and off-licences in Ireland and UK.

Despite the accolade it’s business as usual at YellowBelly Beer HQ . Head Brewer Declan Nixon currently keeps to his schedule of releasing one new small batch beer per week and one new limited edition 330ml can per month, continuously evolving their product range and offering beer consumers something new.

November sees the launch of their latest offering - ‘Red Noir’ which is a full bodied dark red ale. The flavour is all chocolate and forest fruits with a hint of lemon sherbet at the end. This is a decadent red ale, and certainly encompasses character traits that are sure to satisfy both stout and red ale regulars, as well as craft beer enthusiasts.

Creative Director Paul Reck also breaks from tradition by bringing a new character to the fore on the label, plucked from his ever expanding YellowBelly Comic Book Universe. Codenamed ‘Red’, this ass-kicking brewer from another dimension, is leading a revolution and working alongside YellowBelly to take down the evil brewers of H-Corp and discover new recipes for great beers.

‘Red Noir hits off-licences and taps nationwide this week. Log onto www.yellowbellybeer.ie to find locations and download the Red Noir prequel story comic book for free.
