Man had hacksaw blade

-

A 37-year-old man who was out and about in Wexford with a hacksaw blade was ordered by Judge Gerard Haughton to carry out community service in lieu of a prison sentence.

Wexford District Court heard that father of two Gary Pitman, with an address at 35 King Street, Wexford was discovered at King Street by gardaí investigating a report of a disturbance.

The defendant was making threats to another individual at the scene and he failed to desist in this behaviour when asked to do so by the officers. It appeared that he had hidden the hacksaw blade under a parked car.

In court, solicitor Nigel Allen said his client had suffered a broken nose earlier and that he was covered in blood at the time he was apprehended.

Judge Haughton handed down a suspended five-month prison sentence for possession of an offensive weapon.
