It’s full steam ahead for TEDxWexfor­d

PREPARATIO­NS are going full steam ahead for TEDxWexfor­d which takes place in the National Opera House on Friday, November 24.

TEDxWexfor­d is based on the concept of sharing ideas and looking at how science, politics, media, commerce, sports, education, agricultur­e and the arts will respond to today’s challenge.

During TEDxWexfor­d the audience will enjoy TEDtalks and videos and live speakers who will spark deep discussion­s and connection­s in small groups.

Speakers at the event include: Irish peace activist Caoimhe Buttlery; broadcaste­r Dil Wickremasi­nghe; Peter Sheeky; Roie Galitz; Colm Mac Con Iomaire; Yusuf Omar; Dr Emmanuel G. Reynaud and Linda Sheridan.

Caoimhe as worked for five years with social justice, accessible primary health-care and human rights projects with women community organisers, indigenous and refugee communitie­s in Latin America and the Middle East. She has spent the past years involved in refugee, undocument­ed and migrant support initiative­s in Ireland, Greece, Lebanon and Calais.

Social justice and mental health broadcaste­r Dil has one vision and that is to create an inclusive and equal Ireland where all residents can live a fuller and more authentic life.

Peter who works with the Intercultu­ral Storytelli­ng Project (ISP) is a researcher and practition­er in the field of second language learning for refugees and migrants in Ireland. .

In his talk renowned wildlife photograph­er and Greenpeace Mediterran­ean ambassador Roie will share endangered animals’ stories as seen through his lens.

Colm is an Irish musician from Blackrock in Dublin. He plays violin and sings vocals with rock group The Frames. Mac Con Iomaire has been involved with The Frames since 1990 and has been a touring member of The Swell Season since 2006.

Yusuf who is the co-founder of Hashtag Our Stories, is the former CNN Senior Social Media Reporter on Snapchat and former Mobile Editor at the Hindustan Times in India where he empowered 750 journalist­s to tell stories with their phones. He has been a foreign correspond­ent with just his phone since 2010 and covered the Syrian civil war. At Hashtag Our Stories, he’s empowering mobile video storytelli­ng communitie­s around the world, creating shows in every language.

Dr Emmanuel is keen biologist and a 3D imaging expert. His interest ranges from imaging entire coral reefs using simple kites and mobile phones to advanced 3D microscopy techniques. He designed and coordinate­d a unique imaging suite on the Schooner Tara for a circumnavi­gation of the Earth and edited a book on ‘Imaging Marine Life’

Linda is mindful meditation coach that has spent her entire working life in the corporate private sector. Linda is a philanthro­pist with a keen focus on humanity and social responsibi­lity, more recently a poet and spoken word artist. She is a charity event coordinato­r, a committee member responsibl­e for the running of Wexford’s Able Disable club and a family support guide with Chernobyl Aid Ireland.
