PIONEER NEWS

The Pioneer social dinner is on November 24 in the Riverside Park Hotel, This will be preceded by Mass for deceased members at 6.15 in the same venue. This course is suitable for those who wish to brush up on their Irish and would not be suitable for absolute beginners.

TEXT ALERT NEWS

For all who ordered and signed up for Fire Alarms at the last meeting of Crossabeg Text Alert, a reminder to please call to Kyle Forge to collect same on Saturday next, November 18, between midday and 1 p.m. There will be a fire safety talk by Ray Murphy at midday.

JUVENILE ATHLETICS

A reminder to all parents and guardians that training for the juvenile members of St Killian’s AC has relocated to Crossabeg national school hall. Please note the change of times. Training every Monday evening (only) from 6.30-7.30 p.m for boys and girls aged seven years and up to and including third class pupils. Training every Monday and Thursday evening from 7.30-8.30 p.m for boys and girls from fourth classes and upwards.

YOUTH CLUB

There will be no Youth club meeting this Friday in the school as the Youth Soccer competitio­n is taking place in the Astro Centre in Enniscorth­y. Good luck to all involved. Youth Club will be back as normal on November 24.

SENIOR CITIZENS PARTY

The annual Christmas party for the senior citizens of the parish will be held in Ferrycarri­g hotel on Sunday, December 9.Members of the organising committee will be calling on all householde­rs in the coming weeks for their generous support for the event. Invitation­s are also being issued to our senior citizens. Coffee morning.

A reminder that if you wish to pre-order Christmas cakes, puddings, tarts etc from Annis Kehoe, before she holds her annual coffee morning on Saturday, December 9, please call her at 087 2426146.

The event will be held at Kyle Forge from 10 a.m. till 2 p.m. Refreshmen­ts will be served and there will also be a raffle with many great prizes on hand. There will also be many mouth watering goodies on offer, tarts, puds, cakes, bracks, jams, chutneys, vegetables, potatoes etc.

Cards 45 started recently in Furlongs, Road House, Curracloe. The first weeks winners were Simon Donohoe and Helen Larkin. 45 continues every Sunday at 6 p.m for hampers and new players welcome.

The final of the Richard Furlong Memorial pool tournament takes place in Furlongs pub on Sunday, December 2, at three o’clock. The event is kindly sponsored by Bones Furlong digger hire and ST civil engineerin­g, Ballina. Date for the diary. Tommy Doyle’s 50th will take place in Furlongs on Saturday night, December 8, Instead of presents, Tommy wishes people to make donations to the Wexford Hospice Home Care.

OVER-40S SOCCER

The Bridge Rovers Football club are actively looking for new members. They play on Monday nights at 8.30 p.m. onwards and Friday nights at 8 p.m. and you need to pay €5 for the lights per night.

GAA CLUB NOTES

Oylegate-Glenbrien GAA Club will hold its AGM for adult and underage sections on Sunday, November 19, at 5.30 p.m. in the community centre – your attendance would be much appreciate­d.

Lotto – in the draw held on November 1, numbers drawn were 1, 9, 14 and 19 bonus 16. Lucky-dip winners were Anna Mai Conroy, Eamonn Mernagh, Carol Heffernan, Marie Rowley, Joan Murphy, Dan Doran, Kevin Murphy, Brian Doyle. Next draw will be held on November 15 In the Slaney Inn. Tickets available locally.

On Friday, November 24, there will be a concert in Glenbrien church with the Wexford Male Voice Choir and the children of Holy Family NS taking part, this concert is a fundraiser for the parish funds. Tickets at €10 each.

GLENBRIEN TEXT ALERT

A general meeting of Glenbrien Text Alert will be held in the Old School Centre on Tuesday, November 7, at 8 p.m. Please attend as important issues will be discussed such as the purchase of a defibrilla­tor, security within the parish, possibly running a first aid training course and the Garda involvemen­t in the text alert scheme. A divisional meeting of the text alert groups is being held in November so if you would like any item to be raised then please attend this general meeting.

CHURCH BINGO

bingo will be held in Mernagh’s lounge every Thursday for the next few weeks. All proceeds will go to Oylegate church Repairs Fund. Please support.

Local Link Wexford provides secure, reliable and affordable transport for the rural communitie­s of County Wexford. Services are open to everyone and all ages. The services will accommodat­e those attending appointmen­ts, shopping etc. Where possible they will collect passengers from their homes. An informatio­n booklet together with timetable is available at the back of the church.
