Redmond Park set to get new children’s playground

-

WEXFORD District Council is developing a brand new children’s playground in Redmond Park at a cost of €250,000.

Tenders are currently being sought for a landscape architect and playground design team for the park refurbishment project which is being funded by the Government.

‘We hope to have the design team in place by the end of this year’, Community and Enterprise Officer Ger Mackey told councillors, adding that the indicative budget for the development of a public park in each of the county’s four main towns is €250,000.

Members of the public will have a chance to have their say on the playground and park upgrade in advance of plans being finalised and a notice board will be erected on which people can write comments. It is expected that work will start in September 2018.

Mr. Mackey said the playground will extend a little further out into the park in the form of a ‘playscape’.

‘It’s an exciting project and will be a good addition to the town when it’s finished’, he said.

The news was welcomed by councillors including Cllr George Lawlor who said Redmond Park is a ‘tremendous asset to the town and it will be great to see it refurbished’.

Cllr David Hynes said a lot of people who are very enthusiastic about the park will want to hear more details about the project. He added that he would like to see something done with the pond.

Mr. Mackey told him that consideration would be given to the pond in the overall design. ‘An overall design of the park is what will come back. We will have to look at the budget and see what we can do. It’s a substantial budget.’
