Heavy Under-14 defeat

-

NAAS 55, Enniscorthy 7: Enniscorthy produced one of their poorest Under-14 performances of the season when they were soundly beaten by a strong Naas team in Naas on Saturday.

The visitors, however, were missing six regulars through a combination of injury and sickness. They were without their regular half-backs, Jude Green and James Kinsella, and centre James Kalyta, and as a result they were under the cosh very early and conceded three tries in the opening ten minutes as they struggled to get to grips with their new formation.

They never gave up and were rewarded with a fine try from Marco Byrne when the number 8 picked from the back of the scrum and drove though the cover to score. Darragh Kehoe added the conversion.

Team: Mark Aspel, Aidan Whelan, Lawrence Power, Shane Carley, Ciarán Doyle, Conor Walsh, Sam Geraghty, Ian Rigley, Liam Byrne, Darragh Kehoe, James De Lacey, Marco Byrne, Arron Quigley, Lee Moore, Brian Cronin. Subs. Used - Nathan Murphy, Mervyn Rogan.

Enniscorthy 41, Carlow 10: Enniscorthy produced another impressive Under-17 performance when they put 41 points past the home team.

Miguel Byrne scored two tries, the second of which was impressive as he beat three opponents before putting on the after-burners to break the cover and score.

Shane Lynch also grabbed a brace of tries. Michael Morris and Conal Kavanagh-Morris scored one each and out-half Ben Kidd added a try and three conversions.

Team: Tom Saunders, Jack Saunders, Gavin Redmond, Jack Freeman, Conor Byrne, Neil Kidd, Temi Lasisi, Con Maher, Ben Kidd, Miguel Byrne, Mikey Nolan, Michael Kinsella, Tadgh Maher, Con Kavanagh-Morris. Subs. Used - Ben Bayley, Oran French.

Naas 24, Enniscorthy 19: This Leinster Under-15 League encounter produced a wonderful game of rugby that ebbed and flowed from end to end, with the visitors getting over the line with a try to spare.

Enniscorthy’s try scorers included Conor Murphy who had a lot of work to do to get over the line, and his bravery was rewarded with an excellent individual effort. Aaron Doyle and Gerard Kennedy added further tries. Out-half Conal Kervick converted two of the tries and he had an all-round excellent match.
