Wexford shock and sadness at the sudden death of Yvonne
THE FUNERAL will take place today, Tuesday, of Yvonne McGuire (née O’Rourke), who passed away suddenly on Friday night.
Yvonne, who was a former Chairperson of Wexford Light Opera Society (WLOS), had been out carol singing with members of the group before attending the birthday celebrations of a friend.
On the way home, she took ill and was brought to Wexford General Hospital where she later passed away.
Originally from Parnell Street, Yvonne McGuire lived in Carricklawn, Coolcotts, with her husband Philip and daughters Nayomi and Sorrell.
She was well-known in Wexford town for her involvement in WLOS and also for her involvement in the business community.
She and her husband ran a tile shop on Mallin Street and later on Redmond Road for many years.
Friends remarked that her family and the Light Opera Society were her life and she was described as the ‘backbone’ of the group – someone who happily took on every job, from making tea to opening the hall and welcoming audiences.
Wexford Light Opera Society paid tribute, saying: ‘WLOS has been left devastated at the untimely passing or our beloved friend Yvonne McGuire.
‘A former chairperson, secretary and committee member, she will be forever remembered as the backbone of our family. We extend our deepest sympathies to Philip, Nayomi and Sorrell.’
Ms McGuire is survived by her husband Philip, daughters Nayomi and Sorrell, sisters Gabrielle and Lorraine, grandchildren Eryka, Luke, Bradley and Jeff, mother-in-law Sheila, nephews, nieces, extended family, relatives and her many friends.
Funeral Mass takes place today (Tuesday) at 12 noon with burial afterwards in St. Ibar’s Cemetery, Crosstown.
