Kenny ready to lead

WEXFORD F.C. will have a new captain in 2018 as well as a new system of ownership in the form of a Supporters’ Trust. Craig McCabe took over the armband during the season when goalkeeper Graham Doyle retired, but now the defender from Screen has decided to leave the club after six years of sterling service.

Manager Damian Locke has turned to Ross Kenny to lead the team, with the Mayo native having made a big impression in his first year with the club.

The fixtures for the 2018 SSE Airtricity First Division will be released on December 19, with ten teams set to compete after the promotion of Waterford F.C., and the relegation of Drogheda United, Finn Harps and Galway.

Wexford will play 27 games in total, meeting all nine opponents on three occasions, with the action set to commence on Friday, February 23.

In the First Division, the second, third and fourth-placed clubs will go into the promotion/relegation play-offs at the end of the season

The team which finishes fourth will play the team which finishes third, and the winner of that tie will face the team which finishes second.

The winner of that tie will then play the team which finishes ninth in the Premier Division in the final promotion/relegation play-off, with all play-offs over two legs.

The champions of the First Division will be guaranteed automatic promotion to the Premier Division where they will replace the team which finishes tenth in the top tier.

Meanwhile, Ethan Boyle from Wexford town has secured a lucrative move from Finn Harps to Shamrock Rovers, ensuring the Republic of Ireland Under-21 international will stay in the top flight.
