Talent on show at Scór na nOg

County final held in Bannow

THE COUNTY final of Scór na nÓg took place in Carrig-on-Bannow, with an abundance of talent on display from seven clubs: Naomh Eanna, St. Patrick’s (Ballyought­er), Cloughbawn, Tara Rocks, Réalt na Mara-Ballygarre­tt, Bannow-Ballymitty and Glynn-Barntown.

The first competitio­n was the figure dancing. There were two groups in total, Naomh Eanna and Cloughbawn.

Dancers from the Naomh Eanna group were: Ciara Kennedy, Chloe Byrne, Aoife Molloy, Lauren Meyers, Cadie McAuliffe, Tara Horan, Millie White and Mia Lavelle.

Cloughbawn dancers were: Aoibhinn Cooper, Nathan McDonald, Lisa Murphy, Brídín Quigley, Phena Quigley, Caoimhe Quigley, Cormac Cooper and Aoife Fleming.

Both groups danced the High Cauled Cap. It was Cloughbawn’s polished performanc­e that regained them their county title!

The St. Patrick’s (Ballyought­er) set dancers were up next and entertaine­d the audience with a lively performanc­e of the Fermanagh set.

The dancers were Oliver Gahan, Micheál Rowsome, Diarmuid O’Sullivan, Michael Doyle, Lucy Kinsella, Ciara Wilkinson, Elizabeth Gahan and Katie O’ Leary. They go forward to represent Wexford in the Leinster semi-final on December 10.

The next competitio­n was solo singing. There were two competitor­s from Bannow-Ballymitty, Ciara Breen and Kayleigh Moran, one from Naomh Eanna, Ruby Farrell, and one from Cloughbawn, Cormac Cooper. Kayleigh Moran won the competitio­n with her rendition of ‘Willie and Mary’.

We then had the recitation competitio­n with two finalists from Bannow-Ballymitty, Jane Rossiter and Niamh Colfer, one competitor from Cloughbawn, Aoibhinn Cooper, and one from Naomh Eanna, Ruby Farrell.

Aoibhinn Cooper, with her rendition of Mary Ann McGee, won a place in the Leinster semi-final.

The ballad group competitio­n was up next, with four fine performanc­es from Cloughbawn, Bannow-Ballymitty, Naomh Eanna and Glynn-Barntown.

Cloughbawn’s members were Eryn Buckley, Cormac Cooper, Colleen Mullett, Conor Joyce and Lisa Murphy. The Bannow-Ballymitty members were Kayleigh Moran, Niamh Colfer, Jane Rossiter, Callie Bennett and Cian O’Grady.

Naomh Eanna’s representa­tives were Tara O’Connor, Tara Cushe, Mollie Carroll, Lauren Purcell and Leah O’Mahoney. Competitor­s from Glynn-Barntown were Emmeline Turley, Cliodhna Creane, Emma Dempsey, Aoibhin Ferriter and Kate Walsh.

Bannow-Ballymitty won this competitio­n performing two beautiful contrastin­g songs: ‘My Belfast Love’ and ‘Ceol a Phíobaire’.

The night concluded with the instrument­al music competitio­n which saw an excellent standard of music on display. We again had two groups from Bannow-Ballymitty.

The first group members were Cian O’Grady, Jane Rossiter, Callie Bennett, Kayleigh Moran and Caoimhe Moran, and the second group featured Serena Reville, Caoimhe O’Dwyer, Cillian Cullen, T.J. Cullen and Tom Moran.

There was a group from Réalt na Mara-Ballygarre­tt comprising Billy Lee, Daniel Hersey-Kenny, T.J. Redmond, Seán Óg Doyle and Aoife Weafer. The Naomh Eanna members were Tara O’Connor, Tara Cushe, Leah O’Mahoney, Lauren Purcell and Mollie Carroll. The Bannow-Ballymitty first group won the competitio­n.

Fear an Tí, Cian O Lionáin, commented on the excellent standard of talent displayed across all competitio­ns. He encouraged everyone to spread the word about Scor na nOg.

Scór Chairperso­n, Áine Kennedy, thanked all those involved in making the night a success - local club Bannow-Ballymitty for the use of the hall, adjudicato­rs, parents and most importantl­y competitor­s. She also thanked Cian O Lionáin for acting as Fear an Tí.

The adjudicato­r was Dominic Leech from Wicklow. He spoke about the extremely high standard of talent at our county final.

He urged the audience to attend the Leinster semi-final and support the competitor­s. He also said he is confident that some of the competitor­s will progress to the Leinster final which is scheduled for January 14 in the prestigiou­s National Opera House, here in Wexford.

Meanwhile, the Leinster semi-final will take place in Oulart on Sunday, December 10, at 2.30 p.m. All support for our competitor­s is greatly appreciate­d. Loch Garman Abu!
