Gorey seconds defeated
GOREY J2’s Jekyll and Hyde season continued on Saturday as they entertained league leaders Boyne in Clonattin. Gorey had ran Boyne to a one-point defeat away and were hoping to improve on that this time.
But, as at home, Boyne were first out of the blocks as they crossed for the opening try in the first few minutes. The quickly added a penalty.
Gorey slowly came into the game but Boyne added a further try and a penalty to take their score to 18-0.
In the 30th minute Gorey started to put some phases together and finally registered on the scoreboard when Tommy New crossed for a try, with Cian Hadden converting.
Gorey were now having their purple patch and putting good phases together. They again arrived inside the visitors’ ‘22 and kept the pressure up for Lar Kinsella to go in under the posts.
Cian Hadden added the conversion, and 18-14 was how it was at the break.
After getting back into the game, Gorey usually kick on in the second-half but indiscipline and the more experienced Boyne team put paid to that.
Boyne added a further penalty early on. It was not long until they crossed for another try, with two further penalties closing out any thoughts of a Gorey revival.
This was the last game before Christmas. Gorey will be disappointed with this result but will hope to put things right as they resume in the new year.

ENNISCORTHY GIRLS Enniscorthy 109, Barnhall 0: The whistle hadn’t even left the referee’s mouth when Katie Whelan scored Enniscorthy’s first try in this Under-16 girls’ contest at home to Barnhall on Saturday, with Aoife Codd converting.
Katie Whelan scored again on the third minute and added a third two minutes later, with Aoife Codd converting one for the Panthers.
On the tenth minute, Rachel Murphy scored her first try, and two minutes later Katie Whelan scored again.
It was Rachel Murphy’s turn next before Maria O’Dowd got on the scoreboard, with Aoife Codd converting all four.
Anna Nolan scored two tries in quick succession before Rachel Murphy got her hat-trick after getting her third.
Kaci O’Connor got her first try in the 30th minute, with Aoife Codd converting both.
At half-time with eleven tries and eight conversions, it was 71-0 and the Enniscorthy girls were all over this game. There wasn’t many tackles or scrums, just great strength and runs.
In the second-half the Enniscorthy side started as they had finished the first, with Ciara O’Leary getting her first try and Lauren Delaney converting.
Kaci O’Connor scored our 13th try before Ellen Rogan got her first, with Lauren Delaney converting.
Ciara O’Leary scored two more tries, one after the other, with Lauren Delaney converting one and Mia Kelly converting the second.
Our 17th and final try was scored by Mia Kelly, for a final score of 109-0 on a beautiful day and in great conditions.
Well done girls. The next match is on Saturday, December 9, against Portlaoise in Enniscorthy. Training continues each Monday and Wednesday in the rugby club from 7.30 to 9 p.m.
