12 local companies on latest Revenue defaulters’ list

A TOTAL of 12 Wexford businesses have made settlement­s for more than €2.2m to Revenue, according to the latest defaulters’ list.

The list relates to audits carried out during the third quarter of the year, from July 1 to September 30. In total, 81 businesses are listed, owing a total of €17.4m. Two of Wexford’s defaulters are amongst the highest settlement­s in the country.

Kilmuckrid­ge based landlord Sean Doyle made an under-declaratio­n of income tax and VAT. The unpaid tax amounted to €182,275. Interest of €277,712 plus penalties of €136,706.25 were added to this, bringing the total settlement to €596,693.25. The amount unpaid as of September 30 stood at €516,693.25.

Ceralogue Properties, a property developer which is in liquidatio­n, based at 2 Dair Ard, Bohreen Hill, Enniscorth­y, made a settlement of €502,728.20. This was made up of unpaid tax of €279,075, interest of €139,930.70 and penalties totalling €83,722.50. The company was found to have made an under-declaratio­n of PAYE/PRSI/USC.

Mary Finn, landlord and shopkeeper of Bridge Records in New Ross, was next in the list, with a total settlement of €381,934. This sum included unpaid tax of €186,975, interest of €54,732 and penalties of €140,227.

Commercial Vehicle Test Centre operator WexTestCen­tre Limited was the next highest defaulter in Wexford, making a settlement of €274,974. The audit found the company had made an under-declaratio­n of income tax, VAT and PAYE/PRSI/USC. The total consisted of €136,102 in unpaid tax, €36,796 in interest and €102,076 in penalties.

Landlord Thomas Considine, of 11 Millands, Gorey made a settlement of €108,000 after his audit showed that he had made an under-declaratio­n of income tax and capital gains tax. His figure consisted of unpaid tax of €44,793.07, interest of €29,612.13 and penalties of €33,594.80.

The next highest settlement was made by Eilish Kavanagh, a restaurate­ur with an address at Cooleen, Knockaree, Bunclody, made a settlement of €75,013.71 after making an under-declaratio­n of VAT, PAYE/ PRSI/USC and capital gains tax. The figure consists of unpaid tax of €40,676, interest of €22,135.11 and penalties of €12,202.60.

Anthony Gaffney, a ‘Daybreak’ shopkeeper from The Ballagh, made a settlement of €66,329.05 after he was found to have made an under-declaratio­n of VAT and capital acquisitio­ns tax. His unpaid tax amounted to €45,766 with interest of €6,833.25 and penalties of €13,729.80. As of September 30, the sum unpaid stood at €57,629.05.

Financial consultant Martin Hughes, with an address at 76 The Faythe, Wexford, made a settlement of €56,103.38 after his audit showed that he had made an under-declaratio­n of income tax, VAT, and PAYE/PRSI/USC. His figure consisted of unpaid tax of €30,291.64, interest of €4,794.74 and penalties of €21,017.

Landlord Dermot McDonnell, of Mount Pleasant House, Mount Pleasant, Killinick, was the next highest, reaching a settlement of €44,921.91. This consisted of unpaid tax of €31,133.80, interest of €5,183.34 and penalties of €8,604.77, He was found to have made an under-declaratio­n of income tax.

Emerald Restaurant­s Limited, a provider of outsourced staff with an address at 117 South Main Street, Wexford, made a settlement of €41,592 which consisted of unpaid tax of €25,737, interest of €8.135 and penalties of €7,720. The company was found to have made an under-declaratio­n of PAYE/PRSI/USC.

John Kavanagh, a painter/decorator with an address at Cooleen, Knockaree, Bunclody, made a settlement with Revenue of €40,379.78. This figure was made up of unpaid tax of €20,969.58, interest of €13,119.53 and penalties of €6,290.67. He was found to have made an under-declaratio­n of income tax, VAT, and capital gains tax. As of September 30, the sum unpaid was €18,122.17.

Finally, Caroline Whitmore, of Rosaleen’s Flowers, with an address at Swan View, The Faythe, made a settlement of €39,389.72 after she was found to have made an under-declaratio­n of VAT. The figure consists of unpaid tax of €26,063, interest of €5,507.82 and penalties of €7,818.90.
