AVERYFERRY CHRISTMAS!

- By ANNA HAYES

HUNDREDS OF schoolkids from Kilrane National School enjoyed a Christmas event with a difference when they boarded the Stena Horizon at Rosslare Europort to meet Santa Claus.

Over €3,000 was raised through the sale of 360 tickets in the space of 24 hours. All funds will go to Kilrane National School’s Special Needs Awareness Committee.

During the event, which ran for two hours, kids had the chance to meet Santa, receive a festive gift and enjoy plenty of fun and treats.

Diane Poole, Travel Commercial Manager for Irish Sea South, remarked: ‘The Santa Onboard event has proved a huge success as we’ve managed to raise lots of money that will go towards much needed services for Kilrane National School.

‘There was a fantastic festive atmosphere onboard with lots of excited kids waiting to meet Santa as well as mince pies and other treats for all the mums and dads. What better way to celebrate Christmas than by spreading lots of festive cheer and raising money for this very worthy cause!’

Ceri Dobson, chairperson of Kilrane National School Special Needs Awareness Committee, said they were thrilled with the wonderful event and the fact that they had sold so many tickets in such a short space of time.

‘The project raises much needed funds for children who require additional support both in school and at home. Without the Stena Line staff this would not be possible and, on behalf of the school and the committee, I would sincerely like to thank everyone involved for supporting such a worthwhile event.’
