- By MARIA PEPPER

RETIRED cattle dealer and auctioneer Nick Stafford from Castlebridge has written his fourth book Those Were the Days, a collection of short stories set in rural Ireland and the UK of the 1940’s and 1950’s.

After 46 years specialising in the sale of livestock and land, with over 5,000 clients between Ireland, the UK and Europe, Nick (77) pulled the blinds down on his businesses five years ago and took up writing.

His first book was The Road to the Top about the life of a young County Mayo man who emigrated to the UK which sold well and was followed by the story collection Down Memory Lane and a book of 130 jokes compiled by Nick enitlted You’ ll Never Laugh So Much Again.

His most recent book Those Were the Days contains 17 stories with titles such The Ghost at the Window and Paddy Was Not the Irish Mug with the Handle on the Inside.

‘Some of the stories in this book may have adult content’, said Nick. ‘All my four books will provide many hours of enjoyable reading. I hope that reading the books wil bring back nice memories especially to my older readers. I have used my own imagination to write them.’

‘I sold over 1,000 books in 2016 and 900 to date in 2017. I hope my readers enjoy reading them as much as I enjoyed writing them’.

The publications are available from Wexford Book Centre and can also be purchased direct from the author.
