PONGO

Pongo continues in the Kitchen in Glynn Hall on the first Tuesday of every month at 8 p.m. Come along and enjoy the fun. The annual parish Christmas Bazaar will take place on Sunday, December 17, after 10 a.m. Mass – more details to follow soon. Save the date in your diary.

BARNTOWN CHURCH

Sunday, December 17, at 11 a.m. is the Bambinelli Sunday (blessing the Christ Child). Each child will receive a small crib which will be blessed at the Mass. A festive morning at the school will follow the Mass.

Christmas Mass times: 9 p.m. at Christmas Eve and 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. on Christmas Day.

CALENDARS FOR SALE

2018 Calendars with a Mayorial theme are currently on sale in Barntown. Calendars cost €5. They are available after Mass at weekends, from any committee member, at parish office or from the Mayors office. This will be an essential souvenir of what was a wonderful community event. Your continued support is greatly appreciate­d.

SPLIT THE POT

Congratula­tions to Alice Dunne, winner of the Barntown Parish split-the-pot, who has an extra €107 in her pocket. Barntown Parish split-the-pot continues weekly – watch out for the boxes on shop counters at the following locations; C & D Providers, O’Brien’s Londis Larkin’s Cross, Saucy Butcher Clonard, Killeens Service Station, JJ Byrnes, Joyces Expert, Barntown parish office, Mary Jo’s and the Sailing Cot and of course the church itself. Only €2 to enter. The pot is growing every week.

CAMOGIE

We are all so very proud of all of the young women involved in the Co Minor semi-final who put in a ferocious effort to win on Sunday last and secure a place in the clubs first ever Premier Minor County Final. They had a four point win over St Ibar’s in Hollymount in a hard fought game. 3-3 to 0-08. Scores came from Emma Sweeney (2-0), Jessie Morrissey (1-0), Cora Doyle (0-2) and Emma Goff (0-1).

The very best of luck to this minor camogie team contesting their first ever Premier title in Bunclody on Sunday, December 10, at 11 a.m. v Oulart-The Ballagh. Result not available at time of print.

Our under-10 camogie/ladies’ footballer­s had great fun at their end of year party in Leisure Max. Well done on a great season girls and thanks to all of their parents for their support and a huge thank you to PJ and his team for looking after this great gang of girls over the 2017 season.

Congratula­tions to the Loreto senior camogie team and club girls Lara O’Shea, Aisling Halligan and Clodagh Jackman, who topped their group on Thursday with a win over Mercy New Ross to book a semi-final spot in the Leinster A competitio­n.

COISTE NA NÓG

Our Fundamenta­l Movement Training in Glynn Hall on Wednesdays and at the hurling wall on Sundays has ended for Christmas.

One More Session will take place in Barntown Hall next Tuesday, December 12.

We would like to thank all the children who took part in this new initiative.

SENIOR GAA

We wish our under-21 footballer­s the very best of luck in their Co premier semi-final at 2 p.m. Saturday, December 9, in Killurin v Naomh Eanna Gorey. Result not available at time of print.

LADIES FOOTBALL

The ladies’ Football AGM took place on Tuesday, November 28, and the following officials were elected for the coming season.

CONDOLENCE­S

Glynn-Barntown GAA Club and the wider community are deeply saddened at the news of the passing of Monsignor Lory Kehoe this week. Lory, a native of Glynn was a son of former Glynn NS principal Mícheál Kehoe – National GAA president 1949-52. Msr. Lory was a gentleman and loyal supporter of our club over his lifetime and was well known for his great love of all things Gaelic – sport, history and culture both local and national.

All at Glynn-Barntown GAA Club extend our deepest condolence­s to his sisters Máire, Ita and Angela to the Kehoe, Gately, Cummings and Kelly families and to his many friends, both clergy and lay. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a raibh a anam.

BREE MACRA

Congratula­tions to the ladies, who took the all-Ireland Indoor Soccer title on Sunday last, the Bree Macra’s first all-Ireland Title in over five years. There were great scenes in Gormanstow­n as, roared on by their supporters, the team of Ciara McKelvie, Niamh Cloke Rochford, Justine Spratt Murphy, Shonagh Spratt Murphy, Johanna Wickham, Áine Doyle, Cait Doyle and Marie Doyle battled to victory over a strong Mountmelli­ck team 2-0 in their fifth match of the day.

Well done to the men’s Indoor team of William Spratt Murphy, Stephen Donohoe, John Kehoe, James Parle, Daragh Byrne, Peter Doyle, Dean Murphy and Seán Parker, who despite not conceding a goal in the group stages, missed out on semi-final spot on goal difference.

A huge thank you to Brendan in Dicey Reilly’s, Peurto del Carmen, who kindly sponsored new jerseys for the club, bringing an extra bit of luck all the way from Lanzarote. Brendan Byrne has played a major role in survival and success of Bree Macra over the years and they are delighted with their new kit that will hopefully serve the club for many years to come.

Well done also to the Bree Macra Public Speaking Team, who represente­d the club with distinctio­n at the all-Ireland Finals in Cavan last weekend. The team of Sarah Doyle, Cian O’Sullivan and Sinéad Doyle spoke excellentl­y on their topic ‘Political Correctnes­s is a Good Thing.’.

BREE AC NEWS

Bree AC registrati­on for 2018 takes place at indoor training from 6.45 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday next, December 14. Registrati­ons fees are €30 for adults, €25 for Bree AC members under-eight-19, €12 for all children U5-8 training but living outside the parishes of Bree, Davidstown and Cloughbawn (ie local Community Games area) and €5 for all children U5-10 only involved in athletics for Community Games. This Thursday will be our last Indoor Training Session before the Christmas Break.

The Bree AC AGM took place in Bree Hall and officers for 2018 are chairman; William Spratt Murphy, secretary; Clare Doyle and treasurer; Una Doyle. The presentati­on of annual awards took place following the AGM; Athlete of the Year – Seán Rowley; John Godkin Award – Abbie Doyle: Bree ICA Award – Oisin Rochford; Peter Byrne Award – Darra Casey; Pat O’Leary Award – Katie Doyle; Tony Greene Award – Gracie Kehoe; Paul Kehoe Award – Aoife Cloke Rochford; Special Merit Awards – Ciara Laffan and Keira Wilson.

SUPERVISED STUDY

Wexford Local Developmen­t and Taghmon Action Group continue their partnershi­p to provide supervised study sessions for secondary school students in Taghmon. Extra places have now become available from January, commencing on January 8 the cost is €5 per week per student to cover the cost of lighting/heating.

At the moment the student study facilities are available from Monday to Thursday from 5.30 p.m. to 7.30 p.m., with the possibilit­y of extending the time in January from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
