ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

The St Fintan’s GAA Club held its annual general meeting in the scout hall Ballymore during the recent past.

Outgoing chairman Richard Kelly opened the meeting by welcoming those in attendance and thanked them for their co operation during the past year. He then called for a minutes silence for deceased members and supporters of the club.

He spoke of the performance of the various teams during the past year and stressed that with a little more effort the intermediate football team could have taken the title as it was only touched off by the eventual winners Kilanerin. Reading of the minutes and treasurers report followed and both went off without question.

The election of officers for the coming year followed with last year’s returned en bloc. Chair. Richard Kelly, secretary Sharon Pettit, treasurer Liz Crowley and PRO Paddy McGuire. We saw a change at club president level with Nick Pettit stepping down and Nicky Newport was elected to fill the post.

A lively debate followed with a positive contribution from the senior and younger members of the club with the support for the fundraising weekly lotto high on the agenda. Richard closed the meeting by thanking all those for supporting the teams and the various fundraisers and wished everyone a very happy Christmas.

25TH ANNIVERSARY

The St Fintan’s GAA Club celebrated the 25th anniversary of the junior B hurling team winning the county title with a night of nostalgia in Ye Olde Coopers Inn during the past week.

Paddy McGuire who was club chairman back then got the celebration under way by welcoming everyone and said that the year we celebrate 1992 was one of many highs but one very sad low the passing of Ted and Brendan Casey following an accident. Ted was club secretary and the youngest in the county at the time and since that time two other members of the 92 set up have also passed away in Eamonn and Pat Murphy.

Before getting proceedings back on track Paddy asked that we observe a minutes silence in respect of their sad passing. All members of the panel were presented with a framed photograph and a disc of the game by John Kelly before the game was shown to all.

Those in attendance spoke of how the blend of youth and experience won the day on a very heavy pitch defeating Halfway House Bunclody 4-12 to 0-06 bridging a 12-year gap since winning an adult title. Over some light refreshments many looked at photographs of that era and spoke of times past and present. A great celebration enjoyed by all.

ALL BLACKS AFC

Massive congratulations to three of the under-14s boys selected for next year’s Wexford, Kennedy Cup team Evan Cullen, Tadgh Deegan and Lee Kelly. The under-14 girls travelled to Duncannon to take on Seaview in the league.

The first goal of the game came for the All Blacks when Abigail Clarke made a wonderful break through the Seaview midfield to put a great ball through to Aoibheann Rankin, who showed real composure up front and gave the Seaview keeper no chance. All Blacks then went on to double their lead with a skillful goal scored by Aoife Devereaux and went in at halftime with a two goal lead.

Unfortunately Seaview scored two unanswered goals in the second half one from a penalty and despite our girls putting on the pressure and forcing the opposition goalie into making some fine saves we couldn’t find a winner. Well done to all of the girls who gave it everything on the day Sophie, Cora, Eimear, Katelyn, Tara, Aoife D, Abigail, Kennedy, Melissa, Aoibheann, Zoe, Amy, Aoife C and Kayleigh.
