PARISH GATHERING
Our Christmas Gathering was a great success and enjoyed by all on Sunday the third in our Parish Hall. Our deceased family members and friends were remembered at Mass. May they rest in peace.
We had plenty of dancing, songs from Owen Gordon, John Jackman, Cindy Campbell, Artie Sludds played the mouth organ and Pat Barry played traditional music on the accordion. We were delighted when Thomas Maguire and Fhiona Ennis made a guest appearance, which was very much appreciated by all. There was also a lot of chat and plenty of reminiscence. Congratulations to Stacey Redmond, who celebrated her 40th Birthday on the night.
We would like to thank Peter Doyle, Daybreak Supermarket Ballymurn, for his generous donation of the Turkey/Ham and the use of his facilities, Ballymurn Youth Club for their generous contribution of monies/spot prizes, Hughie Byrne, The Anvil Bar, John and Breda Redmond, Dockrell’s, Enniscorthy Credit Union and all the people who contributed monies, food and the enormous amount of spot prizes received.
A special thanks to our Community Employment participants for all their work, the catering team who were joined again this year by girls and boys from our Youth Club. These young people are brilliant, hard working with excellent interpersonal skills and willingly took direction from their leaders; they are a credit to their families.
We thank John Doyle from Monageer, who gave his time to join Paddy and Shay on the night. Thanks for the music and to all who entertained us on the night.
BIRTHDAY WISHES
Congratulations to Stacey Redmond, Ballylucas on the occasion of her 40th birthday. Nicky, Paul and Pavel for all their hard work and dedication, training on those dark nights in the local community field, cold mornings at the Raven, Curracloe and at Crossabeg school.
She also thanked the committee members and in particular secretary Kathryn, who ensured that all the paperwork was kept up-to-date, to Alice and Niall, who kept the accounts in order, to Therese, who kept an eye on all children protection regulations and Anne and Niall, who ensured everyone knew about the club by posting items to Facebook. Thanks were also extended to all the parents who gave a helping hand during the year and were willing when called in to help, and all parents wishing to get involved are most welcome.
The athletes themselves were commended on their successes during the year. Many of the juvenile athletes participated in the various competitions throughout the year and the club will continue to encourage them. Jack Forde had phenomenal success winning gold at International level in the Schools Combines on top of his seven all-Ireland medals, not to mention his Leinster, county, Schools and Community Games successes. Amy Forde brought home two Leinster medals this year which is a fitting reward for all her training. At Senior level, the athletes had another very successful year and in particular, Niall Sheil, who also won gold at International level.
Spring/summer training for juveniles continued every Monday and Thursday evening from 7 p.m. to 8.15 p.m. at the local community field in Crossabeg. Training took place on the grass track with good use made of high jump, long jump, and throwing as well as sprinting, middle distance and long distance running. Winter training consisted of cross-country which took place in the community field under lights till Halloween and then a move indoors to Crossabeg school for the dark winter months.
The school training has been split into two age groups which has proved very beneficial. The younger age groups train from 6.30 p.m. to 7.30 p.m. on Monday evenings only, with the older age groups training from 7.30 p.m. to 8.30 p.m. every Monday and Thursday evening.
Sincere thanks to the management and staff of the school for facilitating the club. The senior athletes organised their own training schedules. St Killian’s AC continues to provide a social outlet for the community and it facilitates the healthy development of our athletes in a safe and fun environment.
