BREE MACRA NEWS

Congratulations to the ladies, who took the all-Ireland title recently, Bree Macra’s first all-Ireland Title in over five years. There were great scenes in Gormanstown as, roared on by their supporters, the team of Ciara McKelvie, Niamh Cloke Rochford, Justine Spratt Murphy, Shonagh Spratt Murphy, Johanna Wickham, Áine Doyle, Cait Doyle and Marie Doyle battled to a 2-0 victory over a strong Mountmellick team in their fifth match of the day.

Well done to the men’s team of William Spratt-Murphy, Stephen Donohoe, John Kehoe, James Parle, Daragh Byrne, Peter Doyle, Dean Murphy and Seán Parker, who despite not conceding a goal in the group stages, missed out on semi-final spot on goal difference.

A huge thank you to Brendan in Dicey Reilly’s in Peurto del Carmen, who kindly sponsored jerseys for the club, bringing an extra bit of luck all the way from Lanzarote. Brendan Byrne has played a major role in the survival and success of Bree Macra over the years and they are delighted with their new kit that will hopefully serve the club for many years to come.

Well done also to the Bree Macra Public Speaking Team, who represented the club with distinction at the all-Ireland Finals in Cavan. The team of Sarah Doyle, Cian O’Sullivan and Sinéad Doyle spoke excellently on their topic ‘Political Correctness is a Good Thing.’.
