Class of 1992 enjoy reunion
THERE WAS plenty of reminiscing when the St Peter’s College graduates from 1992 got together at their old school recently.
The group had missed their 20-year anniversary but many of them reunited over the course of last year when the school’s Gaelic Football team enjoyed great success in the Senior A Schools Football Championship, winning Leinster and reaching the All Ireland Final against Killarney’s St Brendan’s.
25 years ago, a St Peter’s College team was enjoying similar achievements. The Senior team of 1992 was the last school team to win the Leinster Championship and that team featured a host of future Minor, U21 and Senior county footballers and hurlers, among them All Star Darragh Ryan, Eugene Furlong, Pheilim McGillycuddy and Mick Pitt.
These meetings helped to solidify the plan for a reunion and the school made the premises available for the group from 4.30 p.m. until 11 p.m. one recent Saturday.
Conor Brett, a graduate from that year and one of the organisers said: ‘We had 77 people, some boarders from Wicklow and a couple of people who travelled a great distance. Paddy Crosibe, who was the captain of the football team in 1992 travelled from Dubai while John McEvoy from Arklow, came from Australia for it.
Food and refreshments were served and the group enjoyed a great night of nostalgia.
Mr Brett remarked: ‘We were a good, tightknit group and there were a lot of great sportspeople in the year. We’d made the breakthrough in 1991 at Junior and went on in 1992 then to win a Leinster Senior title.’
He expressed his thanks to Declan Cloney from St. Peter’s College Past Pupils’ Union, school principal Robert O’Callaghan and the Board of Management for their support.
